His father, a long time eaptain in the Navy, was re- quired to be on the move most of the time. so Bob claims he, himself, should be teach- ing Geography 5, 6 at lidison Tech. Seriously. he was a member of the freshman football squad and a three year man with the Radio Club. .Xlso on the Business Staff of the Echo, Bob is aiming for a B, S. de- gree at some undecided university on the west coast. '32 RICHARD JOHN DALTON Rabbit roared into the halls of Prep in the fall of '52 after a session at Nathan lfckstein Junior High. Since then, he has probably seen his name in headlines more often than any other high-sehool athlete in the city. For two seasons, Rick led l'rep gritlironers to touchdown after touchdown with his jackrabbit running and passing. .X unanimous .Xll-Cross-State choice as .1 senior, he also placed on a number of national all-star elevens. But his first love is baseball, in which he has been a top slugger for the past couple years. Intra- mural basketball and letterman duties till out the tough daily schedule for Rick, who has his sights set on Nlickv Klantlt-K iob with the Yankees. MAURICE ANTHONY DELOY Klaurice came to Prep as a graduate of the St. johns class of 1051. On his First vear, he entered l'rep's Fioclalitx and re- mained ttetlvt' in that organization for four vears. lle was also a promising de- bater during his freshman semesters. XX'hen his card shark buddy, Nlr. Renner, was moderating the Orpheans in '33 and 'S-1. Nlaurice was one of the most active members. His scholastic standing has proven his prowess as a student. which can be seen bv his four year stretch in the 'top ten.' Other than his hobby of teaching Hutchinson the fine points of the Greek langttage or how to get a drag with Nlr. lleuzerf' Nlaurice continues along in his studies in hopes of becoming one of St-.tttle's leading lawyers. CHARLES WILLIAM CURRY, JR. Soaring in from St. Nlarfs Grade School in l'eoria, lllinois in the fall of '51, Chuck Curry has wandered the .Xdelphia corridors ever since. .X bright student, especially in his math specialties, he has kept his grade point well up on the chart of '55 grads. Seattle Prep's organization of outstanding athletes once more had a banner year. The membership in this disciplined crew is restricted to Prepsters who have earned a varsity and then have been able to withstand the usual initiation. Although the club is essentially an honorary group, it does perform a few necessary tasks around the Prep campus. The building and grounds are kept in neat order by the watchful eyes ofthe members, who administer spats every month to the hapless violaters of the school rules. Letterman also helped the Panther Club with the ushering at basketball games in flarrigan Gym. The high spot on the Letterman flub calendar was the annual Club Sock-Hop at the Prep gym following the Bellarmine basketball game. Prom Committee There is little need to ask any Prep upperelassman where he was the night ol' lfriday, May 13, lor there eonld he only one ansxver: The junior Prom. With King Gary :Xllrreeht reigning trinmphantly, the Prom proved to he the soeial highlight ol' the sehool year, Held at secluded lnglexvood Golf and Country fluh where the soothing strains ol Ken C'loud's Or- ehestra drifted out over the moonlit mirror ol gravel-til Lake lYashington, the Prom eomhined every element of beauty into an nnforgettalile evening. The plan- ning and presentation was earried out by the '55 Prom Committee, headed by Chairman joe Morgan, and assisted hy joe Quinn, Alee Brindle, john Periein, Paul Kotsehevar, Tony Ryan, Mike Knowles, Ollie Flor, Peter Giaeolmazzi, George Morrison, and john XYeleh. Together they generated one of the most powerful offenses in the state. They turned an old adage around to read: The best defense is a good offense, as they ran roughshod over their opposition. This season was the first in many a moon that Prep did not meet O'l7ea on the football field. The Panthers opened the 1954 season with an offensive roar. Rick Dalton was the big gun for the Panther forees as he scored one TD and passed for another. Ollie Flor and Bill johnson also crossed the chalk line for the Panthers. A capa- city Crowd of 3,500 people saw the biggest game in the state that evening at High- line XYar Memorial Field. ' T' 3 3 JON JACOBSON Forward TONY RYAN GEORGE MORRISON Forward Guard Behind the sterling play of center Ollie Flor and guards Bill Rois and George Morrison, the Panthers put on a fourth quarter drive to come from behind to win, 58-50. The husky Lincoln Abes proved too strong as their zone defense held the Panther at bay, 53-43. George Morrison played a great game and carried the Panthers to within striking distance before fouling out in the fourth quarter. Bellarmine threw another zone defense, which was becoming a bugaboo for the Panthers, and glided in to a 49-48 vic- tory. Bill Rois hit his stride for Prep as he scored against Bremerton. But big Al Murphy hit for 23 and the Wild Cats pulled it out of the fire, 50-44. The Panthers surprised the experts as they took Bellingham apart S2-45 for the second straight year in the northern city. Playing the night before the semester exams and without high-scoring forward john Pericin, the lethargic Panthers went down to defeat, 38-35 at Kent-Meridian. The young Panthers surprised every- one as they played the Stadium Tigers on even terms in the first half without the services of ace guard Bill Rois. But the young Panthers wilted under pressure in the final half and lost 67-55. The Panthers avenged an earlier defeat as they trounced Bellarmine 52-35 in preparation for O'Dea. The Prep kids playing cool, deliberate ball, belieing their inexperience, upset the highly rated O'Dea Irish before a screaming, thrilled, capacity crowd at Seattle University. The Panthers con- tinued to play top-notch ball as they whipped Bremerton in a return match 44-43. O'Dea came back strong to whip the Millerites 38-34 before another capacity crowd at SU. Ollie Flor playing against O'Dea for the third year was high for the Panthers with 12. The Panthers thor- oughly dissected the Red Raiders of Bellingham 60-46 as Pericin and Rois hit for 16, and 15 respectively. Minus the services of their ace center Ollie Flor, the Cats surprised everyone as they unveiled another great pivot man as Brian Bell hit for 18. Bill Rois played his Final game at Garrigan flawlessly as he turned in a 19 point finale. Chester Holly came off the bench to lead the reserves to a 16 point fourth quarter, Al Lemieux and jim Lindeman aided the cause. The Prepsters lost their second Catholic City championship 40-44 as the Irish took advantage of Ollie Flor's foul- ing out in the fourth quarter. Brian Bell turned in another excellent game as he hit for 14. Ending their season in Tacoma the young Panthers put on a scrappy and spirited game as they almost upset the highly rated Stadium Tigers 62-63. Ollie Flor went on a scoring rampage which was to last until the end of the season as he hit for 18, closely followed by Bill Rois with 17. In the opening game of the District meet for Prep the Panthers trounced Bellarmine 66-51. Ollie Flor went wild again, hitting 23. The Panthers played the second game of the regular district meet after O'Dea had whipped Lincoln 58-47. The Panthers pulled the upset that they had been aim- ing for all season as they took Stadium apart piece by piece 66-55 Ollie Flor remained in high gear hitting 23 points. Brian Bell hit for 15 as the Panthers made it an all Seattle finale to the Tacoma District meet. The young Panthers ended the season losing out in their last chance to make the state A as O'Dea took them to camp 41-36. Neither team played a very good game and the Panthers definitely missed their high scoring forward john Pericin who might have spelled the difference. This year's team was one of the most unusual ever to be written up in the Senior Annual. With the exception of Bill Rois this is the team of 1956. Much credit is due to the seniors who supported the young Panthers as though they were a senior-studded team. Next year holds great things for the Panthers, especially in state-wide competition, where they 'ould go all the way. ff 6 . , 5 4 'wk RLT? f Z f I -1 ii -tp I x s Nb, ff! L 4 a, N 'fi lj f I I J. V.
