OW THE history of the Class of Seven and Forty of the High School of the Cxty of Lenox County of Taylor State of Iowa is in this wlse In the beginning ln the third and fortleth year of our Lord ln 'imth month and on the second day of the month there entered into this Land of Learning twenty six seek ers of knowledge Some came up from the erghth grade some came from other halls of mstructlon and some from the farms Three Vauncerl Beck Juanita Ferguson and Janet Walter entered with the highest records for schol astlc achievement ln their counties As they entered this land they were received with malicious glee by a certain band of Jvlld beings who were called Sophomores and who because of their fierce taste for Freshman blood did pounce upon them daily and nightly and did cause them to suffer great things lNow it came to pass soon after they entered the land that they were one and all seized with a strange infirmity which did cause them to act wlth much fierceness and strangcne s of manner and to grapple and wrestle w1th thelr felloy ln much rage and seeming ferocity Wrs men called to look upon them pronounced the 1nfirm1t1cs ln the male football and basketball Dale Purdum Gene Hanson and Gene Trost were most sc rrously afflicted with football two of these Dale Purdum and Gene Hanson with the additlon of Dean Ynodle also suffered from bas ketball wlth Dale Purdum making the first team Two girls Janet Walter and Bonnie Roe caught the basketball fever and made the first twelve Mary Van Houten was outstanding in music entering the state contest with her trombone Virginia Reynolds and Ramona Ewart united with this band and Vernon Beck left it thus at the end of the first year the class being ln number twenty seven At the beginning of the second year a new band of youths came up and the Class of Seven and Forty in the dignity of their promotion remembered the days of their own grievances and as the Sophomores of their day had done until them even so did they do unto these Freshmen and showed no mercy unto their sufferings and heeded not their lamentatrons untll all were bruised and sorrowful As the class did Journey through the land they beheld Mild ed Blvens Junior Moffett and Jack Trost who had tra ed from the companles with whlch they had set forth 1 to High School and their hearts were stirred w 1th pity 1 tl h y did open w lde to them that they might be gath ered in Xnd the class was sorrow ful to later see two pupils JL lor Nloffett and Billy Dean DHVIS depart to JOIN an o her band Behold rn the thrrd year the class did asp1re to dra matic honors and did present to the people a great and wonder ful play wherein each should act w hat he w as not SENIOR CLASS HISTORY Q And the heads of the class became swelled to their fullest capacity at the praise they received for this deed lNow ln this year many of the class won honors Gene Trost in football Marvm Nelson Donald Immel and Harold Larimer in baseball Jack Trost Dale Purdum and Glenn Norton 1n both football and basketball and Cene Hanson rn all three In girls basketball were Janet Walter Bonnie Roe Virginia Reynolds and Mary Van Houten Mary entered State Contest with her trombone and received a first Now when the third day of the fifth month of the ycar of srx and forty came this class did give a great ban quet for the class of six and forty who were bravely de parting into a new world of labor and machinery or to more advanced halls of learnlng And the class rn its Journeys through this year found four new members Phyllis Sexton Donald Immel Dor othy Symonds and Harold Larlmer Now this the fourth year in the history of th1s great 'ind wonderful class of seven and forty has been one of much hard labor and but little resting for preparations have been made for them to take their final departure from the land Their pride grew to great brgness within them and the class began to wish for badges befitting their high they professed themselves satisfied with their choice and rings were purchased And in the same year the class did set themselves down that an artist of much skill should make of them a picture of great beauty but w hen lt was done and their eyes fell upon what was said to be like their faces horror was upon the face of the whole class for It was like noth mg on the earth nor under the earth nor on the face of the angry sea Virginia Hewitt was welcomed 1nto the class and Mary and John Van Houten were sadly told farewell as they departed to Join another band This year also many were seen to excel 1n sports Dale Purdum Gene Trost Jack Trost Glenn Norton Gene Hanson Harold Larimer Don Immel in football Dale Pur dum and Dean Knodle in basketball and many were in music activities Remembering with glad hearts our play of a year hence we aspired to do another which was met also with the pralse of multitudes Four years hath th1s class of seven and forty Journed 1n the land and gathered large portions from e tree of knowledge Now we SENIOR CLASS PLAY Q Q13 O ear' Q 71 lyl 'VNC N THE evening of March 21st the play A Case of Sprmgtlme was presented at the hlgh school gym na lum by the semor class It was met wlth a large audnence and vreat applause When Bob trled the sawlng a women ln half maglc trlck on the hlgh school prlnclpals daughter xt dldnt work' He dxdnt really hurt her but at FISH of curta1n Bobs alreadv ln plenty of trouble He trles to pretend that he s too slck to go to school untll thmgs blow over He phones the school prmclpal and talks llke hls Dad Bob cant come to school today Then he s forced to go on and lmltate the famlly doctor The boys got bronchlal compllcatlons Unseen by Bob hls parents are over hearlng all thls Bob IS forced to explam to h1s anxlous mother but hes so upset that hes almost glad to tell het There comes a t1me when a fellow needs a man to man talk wlth h1s mother It seems that h1s beautlful glrl lthe prlnclpal s daugh terl IS fallmg for a college man and Bob ln a great effort to prove how pollshed and suave he can be has tak en up maglC But then h1s blg trlck went wrong and hes practlcally suspected of attempted homlclde Mean while the k1d brother whlle demonstratmg hxs dynamlc muscle bulldmg lessons has torn the formal coat Bob borrowed from hls glrl to wear durmg hls maglc show land of course she got It from her father the prme1pal'l Joan comes by stlll mad to demand the coat back T hlde the damage Bob thrusts lt 1nto the laundry bag H doesnt know that the bag IS full of curtams to be dyed brlght yellow Theres a roar of laughter from the aud xence as the mald totes off the bag whxle the unaware Bob explams the delay by tellmg Joan how hes hav1ng the coat beautxfully cleaned the thmksl By the tlme Bob finds the real fate of that laundry bag 1ts too late and the outraged prmcxpal has dlscovered everythmg' The dye IS cast' By now Bobs family IQ begmnlng to get serlously XNOI'I'I0d Mother decldes to entertain the PTA ladles 1n hops that they mav mtercedc for her son Bob IS all set to proye how mlsunderstood he IS and that hes really a model boy but hls plan IS shattered Expectlng someone else entlrely Bobs mnocentlookmg kld brother has set up a whole SOFICS of home made booby traps fcontrlved out of such rellable Items as hot pads red pepper and electrlc fansl The PTA ladles IH a slde spllttlng scene walk rlght mto them and they KNOW lt s all Bobs fault Frantlcally angry they want to denounce hlm to the authorltles but that lsnt necessary The authorltles through a mlsunderstandmg are already out after Bob I must be llvmg under a curse' crles Bob but hes Bob IS on the top of the world forglven by the prmclpal safe from hls college rlval and all set w1th h1S glrl It s a Joyous and zestful comedy of youth The characters are as follows Dean Knodle Glenn Norton Mlldred Blvens Janet Walters Gene Hanson Bonme Roe Bob Parker who IS on the spot Mr Parker his father Mrs Parker his mother Betty Palkel his slster D1ck1e Parker the kid brother Gwen Anderson Dlckles flame Joan Abernaker the prmclpal s daughter Eddle her brother Louella the Parkers mald Mr Abernaker the hlgh school pr1nc1pal Jack Trost Mrs Brunswxck Paullne Knox Nlrs James of the P T A Floy Beck Nirs Hill Juanlta Ferguson Plalnclothes Man the law Dale Smlth NIISS Brlght from the zoo Peggy Ford Katherine Buxton Dale Purdum Bonme Bell McFee LENOX HIGH SCHOOL O O , 3 45 3 s 5'-'jf .
