Dedication: William M. Mauney William M. Mauney, Associate Professor of Economics and currently acting Chairman of the Economics Political Science department, is a man who devotes himself to Lenoir-Rhyne and to the students. A native of Hickory, Professor Mauney received his Bachelor De- gree in Economics from Lenoir-Rhyne. He then proceeded to earn his Masters in Economics and Business from Appalachian State Universi- ty. In 1967, Professor Mauney returned to Lenoir-Rhyne as Instructor of Economics. In 1971 he was promoted to Assistant Professor, and in 1979 he gained Associate Professor status. Professor Mauney is currently the Director of the Broyhill Institute. He is a member of Pi Kappa Delta (forensics), Mu Sigma Epsilon (scholarship). Pi Sigma Alpha (Political Science) and Omicron Delta Epsilon (economics) fraternities. He is a member of both the Southern Economic Association and the American Economic Association. In addition, Professor Mauney teaches a full load of classes, ranging from Principles of Economics to Money and Banking (sometimes referred to by students as Mauney and Banking). When asked why he chooses to teach at Lenoir-Rhyne rather than apply his knowledge to the field of economics, Professor Mauney replies that he prefers working with students and in a college atmo- sphere. Professor Mauney is well-liked. Students know that they are free to stop by and chat or to come by his office whenever they are having problems with a class. The students feel that Professor Mauney makes economics more understandable and that he really cares about them, both as students and as people. His hard work and dedication has not gone unnoticed. It is with great pleasure that the Senior class dedicates the 1987-88 Hacawa to Professor William Mauney. 4 Dedication
