x l ' Ingrid (Laura Wolf) learns that wish- ing isn ' t complicated — all you have to do is ring the bell, wish, command and all your dreams will come true. Children ' s Theater The Lenoir-Rhyne Play- makers opened their sea- son with East of the Sun, West of the Moon, a ro- mance for children written by James M. Ragland. The play is based on an old Nor- wegian folktale. The story is about a poor family that gives up their youngest daughter for a year. This serves two purposes: to make the poor family wealthy and to lift the curse from the prince that makes him the white bear. Ingrid and Bo run into ob- stacles along the way and the outcome appears gloomy. In the end, the problems are solved and everything comes out roses, or, better yet, wishes. Playmakers attended the North Carolina Theatre Competition in Greensboro and have been invited to perform at the Southeast- ern Theatre Competition in Atlanta, Georgia. 22 Campus Life

m ack To School ... Parent ' s Weekend At LRC The phone calls home dwindle and the homesick- ness fades but the ties to Mom and Dad remain steadfast. Parent ' s Week- end brings together the two worlds of the student. Each Fall, Mom and Dad have the chance to return to their college days for one brief weekend. For the student, it is an opportunity to show Mom and Dad what life at L-R is like (and an excuse to clean up the room before they arrive)! For Mom and Dad, it is an opportunity to meet friends, professors and visit the campus. Ev- eryone welcomes a familiar face from home. Parents enjoy L-R soccer. Julia Bramble introduces her parents to professor Thies. 24 Campus Life
