Each fall, all Lenoir-Rhyne incoming fresh- men and transfers are given the opportunity to participate in the College ' s comprehensive ori- entation program entitled Prologue. The pur- pose of the program is to familiarize the new students with the campus, the community, and each other. The program aims to make the students feel at home and a part of the L-R Family. The activities used in trying to accomplish these goals included: a Scavenger Hunt around campus, a cook-out with the L-R faculty, staff, and administration, faculty advising, the Ropes Course, a Pizza Party sponsored by the Cataw- ba County Chamber of Commerce, and des- serts at the homes of faculty and staff mem- bers. Another of the many events was the Joe Bear Relay which ended in the football stadium with an introduction of the football team and a pep rally led by the L-R Cheerleaders. A very popular event was the President ' s Reception held in the Cromer Center. All students turned out in their Sunday best to meet the new Presi- dent, Dr. John Trainer, and his wife, and to enjoy the entertainment by the Western Pied- mont String Quartet. The combination of all of these activities led to a very successful Prologue. The success was due in large to the hard work of the Prologue Coordinators Gilda Bolick, J.V. Huffman, and Dr. Ed Lewis. These three worked throughout the summer on Prologue. They were assisted by 33 upperclassmen who served as Prologue lead- ers when the freshmen and transfers arrived on campus. On Campus 15
