FOREWORD ' i;i I Witnessing TRANSITION at Lenoir Rhyne, the tacultv and administration have ignited the Flame of knowledge within the stu dents. The toeus of their strivings has been a greater intelleetual challenge to students. Viewing with misgi ' ing and disapproval, at times, the student undertakings, the ' lia e demonstrated patience and understanding, ha e offered encouragement, lia f gi cn re- assurance, have expressed trust. I For four vears student go ' ernment has been experiencing critical grow- ing pains. The opportunitv and challenge of expanding Irom a student- faeult goxernment to a student government has been prccariousK ac- cepted bv students and tacultx anil, in part, accomplisbcil. In a trial (icriod, mistakes have been made, hudts recognized, changes iniliatcil, and some progress realized. There has tlexclopcd a sense ol responsibililv , a sense of understanding and trust antl confidence among students anil lacultv and ailministration. I C ontributing to the learning process, the co-cuiricidar activities offer axenucs of self-expression anil self-ile elopn:ent. n major Held or personal interest that a stuilcnt might choose is re|iicscntcd by some group on campus. 1 he religious organizations strengthen bonds within denominational differences, while sports both prox ' ide an outlet for enthusiasm and e cmplil the principles ol cooperation and good sportsmanship. Both, sacreil ami secular, these acti ities most fullv complete the roundness ol a truK wcll-i ' ilucateil per- sonalitv. I 1 he fraternities and sororities promote strong bonds ol Iraternal brother- hood and sisterhood. Joining hanils lor a common purpose, man ' find the kind of companionship that adds meaning to lite. True friendship grows from a genuine interest in and a concern for others, an exchange of ideas and ideals, a complete trust and continuing communication ' ith acquaintances made at college. ' ■ The nucleus of the college is the lour classes who are on the quest for knowledge. Some students do not make the grade; others feel the need to seek another camjius; anil still others lind greatei ' interest in marriage. The senior class has been a part ol a gii ' ,it TRANSITION.
