' l iP iiP memhers of the elementary teachers asso- ciation are given valuable lessons in handling children, this gronp enjoys an annual Christ- mas program presented by grammar school children. II broader view uf the prohlenis and situations in other countries is obtained by those in this organization, not only are other countries studied but world problems, in general, are discussed in i. r. c. the f. t. a. encourages future teachers to become belter ac- quainted wnth their profession, the solution of teaching problems, how to find a position, plus teaching experience fall into the discussions of these future teachers. open to all. the music club encourages tippreciation of good music, members are given the opportunity to exercise their musical talents. only future music teachers hold mendjership in m.e.n.c. keeping pace with and practicing music education ' s latest achieve- ments are its main objectives. the kampus luits, lenoir rhyne ' s own dance hand, are recog- nized state-wide for their musical interpretation, this year they have played fw the college ' s christmas dance and dances at other nearby colleges and towns. [1381 tn mrmnnam monroe craig voder a.m. professor voder was born in hickory, north carohna on december 7, 1893. he was head of the department of biology from 1920 to 1959. two weeks before being awarded an honorary doctorate degree from lenoir rhyne, professor voder passed awav on mav 21, 1959. mar - k. newton b.s. loyal secretary to the president of the college for eigh- teen years, miss newton was born in hickory on January 2, 1910. a graduate of woman ' s college of the university of north Carolina, miss newton died on november 15, 1959 after a brief illness. albert keiser a.m., ph.d. dr. keiser, former head of the english department and professor emeritus of english and public speaking, retired in 1957 after serving our college for thirty-four years, di- rector of the south atlantic forensic tournament and listed in who ' s who, dr. keiser was born in austria on december 7, 1887 and died in hickorv on december 5, 1959. martin lutlicr stirewalt, sr. a.b., a.m., d.d. dr. stirewalt was born in new market. Virginia on July 24, 1883. he was associate professor of bible and philosophy for ten years, and ser ' ed on the Ixjard of trustees and was chairman from 1934 to 1950. dr. stirewalt, who received the honorary doctor of divinity degree by the college in 1921, died in hickory on march 10, 1960.
