There is art in the aging buildings . . . the structures of new brick and shining steel . . . the serenity of the campus . . . each blade of grass, each towering oak, each bud in spring, all arc artistic masterpieces . . . There is art in the intanoible . . . the hoarseness after a close football game . . . the drive of progressiveness . . . the thrill of learning . . . the look in a sweetheart ' s eyes . . . the warmncss of friendship . . . the joy of winning . . . the dis- appointment of defeat . . . the pride of accomplishment . . . the devotion to your God ... Art . . . not just dabs of paint and oil deftly applied to can- vas, no . . . being able to see life, to know life, to revel in just being alive . . . This is art ...

Dedication We gratefully dedicate this 1957 edition of the Hacawa to George W. McCreary, the masterpainter of all major Lenoir Rhyne publications. As chairman of the faculty publications committee, he has ex- erted a watchful eye and a guiding hand, encouraging the Lenoir Rhyne journalistic outlets to assume their place of prominence within the campus activities. Not particularly by guiding the brush strokes . . . but by sup- plying the easel, he has assumed the giant behind the scenes position. It ' s all yours, Mac !
