Sox Dean of Men Mary K. Newton Secrelary to the President j«W ;fl j It seems to be human nature to complain about authority, and to blame any and every- thing on those who are our superiors or bosses, but seldom do we stop to think of what a mess we would be were it not for those very people. It wouldn ' t be as darling as we would like to think if some co-ed were Dean of Women, or if some Prince Charming were made Dean of Men. No, I believe we all agree that the adminis- tration is indispensable. They are not only our guides and advisers, but our friends. They are one of us, and one of the most important cogs in this complex college mechanism. They are wonderful people, and we want to use this opportunity to let them know what a swell job we think they are doing. - deans J. L. At the end of season play, the grid- iron squad was battling for second place only to be beaten by Cataw- ba and placing the Bears third in conference records. Bur Watts. ' S?SJC« ' The Bears opened the season with a strong Wofford ele ' en, who without much trouble sent the Bruins back to their den with the fur flying. In the early moments, Lenoir Rhyne ' s Bill Eanes tossed a 40 yard pass, and it looked as if the Bears were well on the wav to another successful football season. But only a few plays later the ball was taken by Wofford, and in a matter of minutes the Terriers had struck pay dirt. Wofford went on very easily to win the game by a score of 20 to 7. The following week the Bears ventured to East Carolina Col- leoe, where their hope for revenge was shattered by a mighty team that went on to win the conference championship. The Pirates took to the air and hurled beautiful passes mer the heads of Lenoir Rhyne ' s backs, and streaked by the Bears that night by a score of 34 to 0. Back at home again the Bruins tangled with the Newberry Indians, the sister college of Lenoir Rhyne. Improving as the game progressed, the Bears were able to get off some beautiful runs as passes, but just couldn ' t seem to get the right combination for a touchdown. Newberry managed to push the pigskin across the goal twice during the course of the night, handing Lenoir Rhyne their third loss of the season, 13 to 0. 59 fU fS f30 fW 130 3 t-f mm ' 4i 43t-9  «; i«3 f3B t • 14 70 55 60, 25 kie pr-  First row: Sherrill, McCanless, Egelskv. With Strong hope in their hearts, Lenoir Rhyne ' s Bears and fans journeyed through the mountains to Appalachian only to see the frail Bears bow to a crushing Mountaineer team by a score of 32 to 6. The Mountaineers, with faces leering with revenge, jumped right in on the Bears, and breezed through them throuohout the entire game. After losing the first four games, the Bruin team and supporters were quite downcast, but right before the game, spirits were brightened by the College President, Dr. Voigt Cromer. To use his words: We were bitten by the Terriers, Ramsacked by the Pirates, Scalped bv the Indians, caught in the Mountaineer ' s Bear Trap, but we ' re sure not going to be converted by the Quakers. The fired up Bear eleven dug their claws into the Quakers and won the contest very easily with a score of 25 to ' Taking another trip to the mountains, the Bears upset hopes of the Western Carolina Catamounts by racking them 21 to 20. Both teams plaving good offensive ball, it was a nip and tuck ball game the entire time. It was Western Carolina ' s fourth loss by a one point margin. The next week the Bears went to Roanoke, where they plaved in the Pythian Bowl game against Emory and Henry College. The underdog Bears managed to remain on top of the Victory Wagon as they pounced on Emory and Henry, leaving them at the short end of a 2 1 to 7 score. Again at Collese Field, the Bears poured on the steam acainst a strong Elon team. The highly fa ' ored Christians were tumbled at the hands of the supposedly weak Bruin team. With accurate passing and running on the part of Bill Eanes and Henry Smith, and capable blocking of the entire forward wall, the Bears rolled to victory once more by a score of 27 to 14. With the final game of the season, played on Thanksgiving Day with the traditional Catawba Indian Rivalry, the Bears got set to send them home with a defeat. But much to the sorrow of the Bear eleven, the Indians were keyed up for the traditional match also. Putting on a great show, the Indians dominated the field the entire afternoon. By scoring on a blocked kick Catawba got an early lead and kept things well under control the remainder of the game, which ended at 14 to 0. In spite of the loss of five games, the Bears are to be congratulated on their fine display of sportsmanship. Under the capable coaching of Coaches Stasavich, Ratterrec and Erwin, the Bears are certain of a stronger team in the future. Suicide Sqnad! ' 7( was a dreary Turkey Day! ' WHiat do I do now. Coach?
