To- gether with Our Town, a three act drama bv Thornton Wilder, a successful tour was completed. The Boer, a Russian comedy, and favorite of the group, was presented to several civic organizations. During laboratory productions aspiring hams be- came acquainted with make-up, costumes, stage lights, and that unforgettable first night. As their annual fall production, the Playmakers gave a spirited edition of Sheridan ' s classic, The Rivals. The Bruins breezed through their 1952 schedule with their first undefeated season of conference plav, and were among the highest scoring teams in the nation. . Coach Stass, aided by his assistants. Pride Ratterree, Troy Washam and Albert Archibald, molded together one of the greatest football ele ' ens e ' er to hit the North State Conference. They set an all dme state scoring record for the grand total of 370 points in nine gridiron battles and defensi ' ely they were tops, onh ' allowing their opponents 78 points in return. The Bruins opened the season against the East Carolina Pirates, and edged E.C.C. 7 to 6 in a toss-up battle. The 1952 Homecoming Dav will long he remembered, as the Bears rolled up the highest score in the history oF the college by defeating Bridgewater College of Virginia 79-0. The game with ppalachian was certainlv the most thrilling of the year. At half time the Bears were leading by the slim margin of one point with the scoreboard reading 7 to 6. The Bruins roared back after the inter- mission with a thrilling kick-off return b - Shorty Crook for a T.D. which ga ' e Lenoir Rhyne the margin of yictory, 14 to 12. The Catamount of Western Carolina ven- tured into the den of the Bruins only to return home with a 42 to 13 defeat. One of the best games the Bears played was against her sister college Newberry, as they set the Indians back in defeat 40 to 12. Guilford arrived at College Field for the Bears ' last home game, only to feel the might and power of the Bruin eleven, 76 to 0. Road trips did not seem to hamper the Bears in the least as they met the Fighting Christians ' of Elon at Burlington. The Bruins handed Elon their worst setback of the season with a stunning 55 to 7 win. Thanksgiving Day saw the Bears soar to their greatest triumph of the season as they scalped the Catawba tribe 41 to 13 and to cop their second straight North State Cham- pionship. Lacking height and experience this season, the Bears have made up for it with fighting spirit and the determination to win. This season the Bruins have been hit hard bv gradua- tion and the lack of experienced men, but thev have shown the loop leaders that they have the power to win. The Bears have had impressive wins over league-leading Each Carolina, High Point, Catawba, Atlantic Christian and many other teams that have been played in no- conference games this season. At present the Bears are in sixth place in the conference but in the ensuing weeks if their constant good play keeps up it can be certain that thev will be near the top when regular season play is ended. Past records will be for- gotten, however, when the North State Conference Tournament rolls around at Winston-Salem in February, and the Bears will be fighting to retain their loop title. The track title marked the third for the college in ' 52, with the football and basketball under their bear like gi ' ip. The Bears were lead into the pitch of battle b ' Coaches Brandon and Hamilton at the North State Track Meet at High Point College. Under these two men they performed like seasoned veterans as thev took points in all events. At the meet two records fell into the hands of the Bears; they were the 120 high hurdles broken bv Walter Moretz and the 100 yard dash, bv George Robison. By the constant and capable work of Coaches Jim I lamilton and Pride Ratterree, the inter- est of the individuals has been high through- out the year. This year ' s program was aided by excellent supervision as well as student participation. With keen competition in all sports, the program was enjoyed by many ciuring the year. There are a few girls around the campus who are willing to risk bumps and bruises, maybe even a few broken bones, in order to participate in the tumbling act. In case the picture has you wonder- ing, Roberta made a safe landing after diving over Cackle. Varieties of pyramids and individual stunts constitute the basis for the tumbling pro- gram. Among the sports played, basketball is a fa ' orite. During the sea.son, competition is aroused between freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior teams, thus providing fun and activity for all.
