Accomplishments were a Rally, regular discussion groups, socials, conferences, a world- art display and guided individual study. Though not officially organized this year, this group represents those juniors and seniors who are preparing for the teaching profession. The club has done much to further interest in the French language, in French literature and in the country of France. LA TERTULIA Grace SETZER, Acting President La Tertulia is an organization for progressive Spanish students at Lenoir Rhync. To advance their knowledge of Spanish, the members of La Tertulia learn songs and discuss customs and biographies of Spanish-speaking people. Dr. M. M. Maya is the faculty aide to the club. FEATURES INTRAMURAL Coach Shore Neal Since there could be no intercollegiate com- petition this year, special interest was placed on the development of the individual through activity classes and intramural games. Under the direction of Coach and Mrs. Neal, student interest and participation in in- tramurals has grown. The touch-football season was somewhat hampered due to the shortage of players, but, of the teams, the freshmen came out unde- feated. Outstanding players were Walton, Smith, Entzi, Efird, and Rhyne. PROGRAM In basketball season, the Sophomore girls and boys were the victors. For the Sophomore girls, Ketner and Houser, starred. Stiff com- petition from the other teams was given by Dover, Johnson and Wakefield, The Sopho- more boys romped through nearly every game with an easy lead with outstanding playing by Entzi, Efird and Williams, Baxter. Hill, Rockctt and Hord played well for the other teams. With the coming of spring, baseball hits the limelight with Smith as star pitcher. They come to Lenoir Rhyne from Flight prepara- tory schools. This war training service is Lenoir Rhyne ' s major contribution to the war effort. The school here is the second phase of the training of Naval Aviation Cadets who will one day become flying officers with the fleet, wearing the Navy Wings of Gold.
