FOREWORD Z HAT period of life which is spent in college is distinctly separated from the rest of one ' s life — it is something different, both from the earlier, and from the later periods ... a completion of the one, and a preparation for the other. As the years after graduation pass by, it is a pleasure to turn the pages of our school yearbooks, to recall classmates and acquaintances, incidents, and experiences, which belong to our college life. Bear- ing in mind the fact that this is the chief value of any yearbook, we have tried to make THE 1934 HACAWA a true representation of Lenoir Rhyne as it has been during the school term of ' 33- ' 34. It has been a significant year in many respects, and one that we who are concerned with the welfare of our Alma Mater shall not soon forget. In order to ac- complish this purpose, we have used no theme for the book other than the college itself, and its unity is based on the attempt to portray the unity of the various student and faculty activities of the college. We are aware that the task which we have under- taken is not an easy one, and that the finished product which we are submitting for your approval is in many ways imperfect. It is our hope that you who peruse the pages of this, the twenty-fifth volume of THE HACAWA, will do so with understanding.
