To bring back some of these happy memories in future years, the LenKota staff has prepared the 1940 yearbook. The LenKota aims to present a vivid picture of our high school activities so that the usurping hand of time will not steal away for- ever the fascinating moments of our school life. A great deal of credit is due to the LenKota staff for their sincere efforts to make this year- book better than that of any of the preceding years. The editor Delores Hillman, who through untiring efforts has made the LenKota an in- teresting portrayal of school life. She has been ably assisted by aul Olson, associate editor, vorson, Delores Steever, Vernon Fodness, Phyllis Larson, Bessie Van Essen, Ruth S:hroedermeier, Joyce Jacobs, Roberta Wilkinson, Sophie Beeners Bessie Van Essen and Joyce Jacobs, class editor and assistant class editor respectively, Delores Steever, activity editor, Sophie Beeners, clubs, Ruth Schroedermeier, music, Eugene Schroeder- meier, publications, Phyllis Larson, forensics, junior Halvorson, athletics, and Vernon Fod- ness, school life. The art work on the division pages, one of the features we consider outstand- ing in our 1940 LenKota, was done entirely by Doris Matthews. No annual can be a success without sufficient financial backing, and this was taken care of in an exceptionally commendable manner by Orvin Plucker, Business Manager and Vivian Hofer, Circulation Manager. Their assistants were Roberta Wilkinson and Evelyn Tellinghuisen. S-gylyiiltit fi, it tg Q. The journalism class serves as a feeding field for the Pep-A-Graph staff, which is changed every semester. Classified as a depart- mental paper, it is published as a full page paper in the Lennox Independent each weekg a policy foreign to most departmental school papers. The paper was edited by Delores Hillman the first semester of this year, as a carry-over of last year, with all former members of the staff serving. Vivian Hofer, former associate editor took over at the start of the second semester. Repeating its past performances, the paper re- ceived both a first place rating, and an All- State Superior in SDI-ISPA competition last fall. Arrangements have been made to enter the Pep-A-Graph for an All-American rating this year. The first production each fall is by the Senior class, with the Junior class giving their play in the early spring. The returns from these plays are used to pay for a gift to the school and senior expenses, and for the junior-senior banquet respectively. A third program was added to the list this year, the LenKota program, consisting of a series of four one-act plays and pantomimes interspersed with musical numbers. The True Story of Captain John Smith a pantomime, presented by mem- bers of the speech class, was a humorous take- off on the well known character. Squaring It Witli The Bossf, the second play presented by the speech class, was of a more serious nature, but with a lively tempo. These were under the direction of juDean Sletvold. l'In the Sudsf' was cast with three characters selected from among the student body, it demonstrated the proper method for a hen-pecked husband to cope with a lordly wife, and her mother, and was under the direction of Miss Grace Nichol. The faculty of Lennox High School presented the fourth play Belle and Bill, an old-fash- ioned melodrama, in the form of a pantomime. GALAHAD JONES Galahad Jones, a three-act comedy play, was given by the senior class on December 6 and 7. The play centered around the actions of a boy about 16 years of age, who visualized every- thing as it was in the days of King Arthur. In his desire to help some lady in distress and play the part of some gallant knight, he became in- volved with some rough and uncouth men who threatened his life. These men were brought to justice, and Galahad was given the credit for their arrest. The cast consisted of: Vernon Eodness as Galahad Jonesg Delores Nussbaum, Vivian Hofer, Eugene Schroedermeier, Bessie Van Essen, Delores Hillman, Ileen Timmerman, Virgil Fodness, junior Halvorson, George Carver, Lloyd Temple, Evelyn Tjaden, and Wilbur Elcock. ARE YOU MR. BUTTERWDRTHM This year's junior class presented the mystery, comedy play Are You Mr. Butterworth?,' on March 14. It was different than any other given here for some time in that it took place in the lobby of a hotel complete with elevator and tea- room. Mr. Butterworth had recently purchased the hotel and was coming to claim it. Before his arrival, however, a suitcase of diamond samples belonging to one of the hotel patrons was thought to be stolen. When five hundred was onrered for the return of the jewels, some employees of the hotel commenced to work on the case, each believing he had the criminal. When Mr. Butterworth finally arrived, it was discovered that the diamonds had not been stolen after all. The cast included: Ray Cammack, Dale Johnson, Sophie Beeners, Eunice Burke, Ellsworth Wilkinson, Ruth Schroedermeier, Eunice Wilrs, Henry Muller, Doris Matthews, Evelyn Tellinghuisen, Mary Greer, Bernard Thoms, Melvin Ludens, Shelby Miller, Delma Iben, Delores Steever, Gene Peterson and Florence Fodness. i .. . 4... .4. .
