English I With a growing emphasis being placed on communications the language department at- tempts to give the student a basis on which to build fluency. An increasing amount of tech- niques are being employed in teaching lan- guage. The speaking of a modern language was formerly neglectedg the emphasis was placed on grammar and translation. However, by in- tegrating the spoken and written aspects of language, the student receives a balanced un- derstanding ofthe language. MR.
