Senior clVllIZ2fl0fl The begmmng of our c1v1l1zat1on dates back to September 1953 At that tlme a prmutxve race lnvaded the Instltutlon for the Advancement of Publxc Knowledge known as Lena Hlgh School wlth a number of 44 Durlng our f1rst blunderlng year we elected Jerry Hughes presldent Eleanor Schrader v1ce presldent Annelle D1ttbenner secretary and Merrle Gall Classon treasurer After a cann1bal1st1c ceremony known as 1n1t1at1on we were offlclally made members ofthe Freshmen Race our world rank bemg that of Number Four Dliiiflg th1s year we barbarlously invaded the forelgn fronts one of the favorites belng Elghth hour Study Ha After a summer of nomad1c wanderxng we returned to the fort 1n 1954 w1th the clan numberlng 38 and a hlgher rankmg natlonallty known as Sophomore the Number Three World Power Slnce our c1v1l1zat1on had gone through the DarkAges as Freshmen we were now 1n the Rena1ssa.nce led capably by Larry Henrlk sen as presxdent Jerome Shxppy v1ce presldent Merrle Ga1lClasson secretary and Dean Rlchtemeyer treasurer We reverted to our barbarxous past however as was exlublted by the merc1less slaughter of the 1nvad1ng trlbe of Freshmen To further estabhsh our rank as a rlsmg power we presented a one act comedy The Mlng Thmg' on February 4 1955 We now contmue the story of c1v1l1zat1on as we umte to form the natlonalxty of Jumors 1n the fall of 1955 Tlus t1me the natxonal census revealed our populatlon to be 34 and to lead our r1s1ng natlon we and Marvm Maaske treasurer The true characters of nlne of the more scandalous students were revealed when on November 4th and 5th Annelle Dxttbenner became a VICIOHS murderess and we presented our Broadway H1t ' Nxne Glrls' Th1S presentatlon marked a declded forward step 1n our cultural standards the murders are bexng committed xn a more reflned manner On the twelfth of May the unlted forces of the Number Two World Power presented a Prom to the Sen1ors the theme bexng Summertxme The blg event was held m our Grand Ballroom After the summer of 1956 we returned once agaln to the Instltutxon as the Great and Mxghty Natlon of Sen1ors Number One World Power In the electlon race Jerry Hughes took the presldency wlth Marxlyn Thomasson as VICE presldent For h1s Cabinet Presxdent Hughes selected Barbara Medeke as secretary and Annelle Dlttbenner as treasurer On November 17 a segment of the Sen1ors presented a sk1t Arthur Godfrey for the Grand Fmale at the PTA Fun Nlght Kelth Kuhlemeyer complete wxth freckles dunked tea bags for the T V cameras For the speclal attractxon of the evemng Barbara Medeke brought dovm the house wlth her rend1t1on of Elvis Presley In February the rlsxng natlon sold munchy crunchy peanut brlttle and dreamy creamy mlnts Apr1l 12 and 13 marked the presentatlon dates of the Seruor Play 'He Couldn t Marry Flve Th1S was a comedy concermng flve g1rls who were ln love wlth the same boy and who managed to get 1n some pecullar pred1caments before Tar1s fmally won h1s heart May 27 marked our final step along the road of soclal achievement On th1s eventful evenlng the Mlghty Senxors marched proudly across the stage and recelved that long coveted dlploma quahfymg us to make a name for ourselves ln the world Now we are graduated and supposedly c1v1l1zed The long years from the flrst grade to our Sen1or yeardhave come and gone At long last we are adults ready to embark on our Journey through the adult worl 0 l O I l , . 1 ' 1 1 . 1 , 0 1 I 1 1 1 5 Q 1 1 1 , - 3 1 1 1 1 , 1 1 3 , . 1 1 D 5 . . . 1 1 1 1 I - ' ' . 1 .1 1 1 , 1 , 1 1 . 614.44 to- ACC! lt was a balmy sprlng nlght and lhad nothlng to do I declded to take a walk uptown and see what was happenlng on MHIH Street I was pleasantly surprlsed to flnd a carnlval ln town As I strolled down the mld way I came upon a llttle tent wlth the fasclnatlng slgn Madame Mysto It seems the Madame had a crystal ball wlth whlch she could foretell the future So I pald the magnlflcent sum of 25 cents and went lnslde the grlmy dlmly llt lnterlor There sat the bejewelled crystal gazer and her rather cloudy crystal ball She motloned to me to have a seat and then began to mumble strange lncantatlons under her breath Ah she Sald It IS the year 1967 I see water a lot of water and there LS a man ln boots wadlng through lt and a female flgure struggllng to keep up wlth hlm carrylng a large box of tools Now I can see he IS a plumber and you Helen Eberhart are hls asslstant But what about my frlends What are they dolng I asked Madame Mysto waved her hands ln a clrcle over the crystal ball and then began a reeltatlon of names and occupatlons of all of my fellow classmates of 57 Allen Hobb IS a prosperous farmer and employs a beautlful bookkeeper Eleanor Schrader to keep reports on the egg laying abllltles of hls 20 000 whlte leghorns On an adjolnlng farm llves a world famous auctloneer Russell Hlntz by name Now the crystal hall clouds up and we get a complete change of scenery Why lt looks llke the plc tures I ve seen of Reno Look at allthose brlght neon slgns S'ly there s a famlllar name It says Adorable Annelle Parls glft to the U S A She IS a strlp tease dancer 'md IS d0lhg her latest feather dance Also at the same place we see Lorraine Buske a croupler throwlng., dlce for the famous movlc actress Margery Fransen I asked Madame Mysto what has happened to Mary IOUISC Caudle Ah she sald Mary Loulse IS 'llso ln Reno and has ust dlvorccd her flfth husband and IS trvlng desperately for her SIXUI As I sat there lstenlng eagerly I saw her stare ln the cr stal ball and start to llsten attentlvely I hear muslc she sald and I can see the blg top They are eaturlng an HCFODHIIC team called The Travellng Coolldges and the FIVE Llttle Coolldges They are my former classmates Dorothy Lapp and Kelth Kuhlemeyer In the same clrcus we see a well known name Verna Stlcherlno from Italy dolng her famous ballerlna dance Madame Mysto also told me that Jerry Hughes IS now a stand ln for Elvls Pres ley Well I always knew he could make lt wlth those sldeburns Then Madame Mysto turned to me and taklng a qulck glance at the crystal ball she sald Now I can see a classroom and some teachers I can see Harold Pohl a bookkeeplng professor at Yale and Barbara Schure teachlng glrls P E And there IS Janet Blesemeler ln the lab perfectlng a new drug to combat love S1CliIl0SS Next we see a sllver wlnged jet landlng at LaGuardla Alrport The door opens and Jerry Mlller a Mlsslonary from darkest Afrlca allghts HIS pllot was none nthc r than Barb Brlnkmeler who has recently completed her flrst solo fllght The scene changes agaln to down town New York Clty lncl the rs IS .l large poster advertlslng Karen Hardlng s Model School A course emphaslrlng good posture fol young ladles And now for a flylng rlde down Mexlco way wlth Marv Maaske a Death Dodge Drlver We pull up ln front of a huge arena and there the stellar attractlon IS Jlm Yeakle resplendent ln hls shlnlng matador eostume prepelrlng to meet the feroclous snortlng bull As I llsten ln amazement I remembered one more person I 'lsk her what has happened to Barbara Medeke7 She tells me she IS runnlng an orphanage and Leon Obenehaln works for her as a llfe guard And now back ln town to conclude our tour of the future we flnd Anna Jane Vlhlte as Head Chamber mald at The Blackhawk Hotel Next door to The Blackhawk Hotel MdT1l5D Thomasson and her husband are runnlng a local pub called Tommy s Tavern Well I am really proud of my classmates They have all made good ln the blg world I thank Ma dame Mysto and as I prepare to leave the Madame takes off her turban and I stare ln amazement at my old frlend June Beyer We have a good laugh together and then 1 leave her tlnx llttle tent and walk out lnto the streets of Lena the best llttle town ln the U S A llllllll ' 1 . , , . . , . . f b f . , 1 y Y l ' ' l 1 1 1 , vw 1 , '
