Board of Education The School Board cons1sts of seven members who are normnated by a pet1t1on Slghed by flfty voters Thls petltlon must be f1led twenty one days before electlon Members are elected on the second Saturday ln Aprll There are two new persons elected each two years and the th1rd year there are three new ones elected There cannot be more than three people elected from any congresslonal townshlp The board meets regularly the fourth Monday of each month They work many long hours devotlng thelr tlme and energy ln the mterests of the school and the commumty Parent-Teachers Assoclahon The Lena P T A was organlzed ln October 1950 by the late Mrs Lloyd Glessel the orgamzlng dlrector of th1s d1str1ct The followlng offlcers were elected to serve the flrst year Pres1dent Mr Roy Caudle Secretary Mrs Arthur Larson and Treasurer Mrs Gayle Kleffer The objects of thls organlzatlon as set forth 1n Artlcle 2 of the State Chapter are as follow promote the welfare of chlldren and youth ln home school church and communlty ra1se the standards of home l1fe secure adequate laws for the care and protectlon of chlldren and youth brxng 1nto closer relatlon the home and the school that parents and teachers may cooperate 1n To develop between educators and the general publlc such umted efforts as well as secure for every child the hlghest advantages m physlcal mental soclal and sp1r1tual education The Lena P T A has set up a scholarsh1p fund that enables one graduate to recelve a S200 00 loan to further the1r educatlon prov1d1ng the student can pass other quallflcatlons as set forth by the scholarsh1p fund commxttee In 1954 the f1rst scholarsh1p went to Rlta Peters as a glft After rev1s1on th1s scholarsh1p has been awarded as an 1nterest free loan to Mary Jean Rampenthal ln 1955 and to Bruce Overson 1n 1956 In future years xt may be posslble to allow loans to several students per year Each month an lnterestlng educatlonal program IS glven at the meetlngs The only money ra1s1ng proyect of the year IS the P T A Ftm N1te wh1ch IS held ln November or December Thls year s Fun N1te was a blg success wlth gross recelpts of S594 49 The offxcers for the 1956 1957 year were Pres1dent Mr C D Overson V1ce Pres1dent Mrs Al fred Kuhlman Secretary Mrs Or1e Park1nson and Treasurer Mrs W H Cable I 0 To ' ' , , , ' .
