THEM SCALE THIS ONE L. T. H. S. DANCE BAND Y Under the fine direction of Mr. Charles D. Nicholls, our director of instrumental music, the high school dance band has supplied the dance music for all school functions during the year. Their gay, lilting music greatly added to the success of each school party and other occasions. The band will lose three of its members this year, these being mem- bers of the June graduating class, and will be composed largely of sophomores who, with this year's experience and training, will strike up the band with even greater gusto next year. BATON TWIRLERS Our strong school spirit is due, to a great extent, to the twirlers, who in their attractive uniforms appear during the half at football games. Under the direction of Mr. Nicholls, the girls have practiced hard to pe1'fect their art and since the first twirling classes were organized their number has steadily increased. Dorothy Heartt is captain of the school twirlersg the members of the group are Helen Stipick, Shirley Greenfield, Evelyn Baranowski, Dolores Langer, and Rita Hoffman. School twirlers who are members of the Lemont Majorettes, an advanced group, are Annamae Bush, Captain, Corrine Ott, Clara Mae Friedley, Phyllis Balsley, and Margaret Koski. The Majorettes ap- peared with the Lemont Municipal Band in numerous parades the past summer, including the State Legion Convention parade at Springfield, Illinois, where Lemont was awarded second prize. DRUM CORPS KEEP IN STEP! Inspired by the success of the twirlers, the girls organized a drum corps. Under the able training of Mr. Charles D. Nicholls they have learned to wield their sticks to the tempo of any beat. Drum maiorettes with this group are Dorothy Lingin, Vera Goode, Lorraine Gorski, and Alice Adams. Lorraine Gorski and Alice Adams also led the Lemont Municipal Band during the summer months. 38
