J o we -AE STONY FEELS THE LOS AMIGOS Los Amigos, The Friends, was inaugurated in the high school this year with a membership in the National Affiliation of Spanish Clubs. Organized by students of first and second year Spanish classes, it tends to foster an interest in Spanish speaking countries. The regular meetings, held weekly, consist of a brief business session followed by varied entertainment, educational and recreational, pertaining in some way to Spanish. The organization is under the able direction of Miss Mary E. Roe- buck, assisted by Norma Wolter, president, Emanuel Labicki, vice- presidentg Harlan Jungles, secretary, and Virginia Markiewicz, treas- urer. G. A. A. There's a long, long trail a-winding -! and that trail leads in all directions to give every girl a chance to hike and partake in other activities. With interests varying from hiking and skating to gay and entertaining parties, the members under the leadership of Miss Mabel Radican, faculty advisor, enjoyed their activities and earned their coveted letters. The officers of the organization are: President, Naomi Johnsong Secretary, Corrine Ott: Treasurer, Louise Dooling Activity Chairman, Eleanor Mary Lynchg Assistants, June Kollman and Annamae Bush. 35

MORE DEADLINES!! VERDANTIQUE STAFF On September 10 a meeting was called of those students chosen by the faculty to be entrusted with the responsibility of preparing Lemont Hi's first annual. Margaret Hunkeler was selected Editor-in-Chief: it was thought that her dependability and talent qualified her to fill that position. Margaret chose as her assistant editor, Naomi Johnson. John Mitchell, because of his bookkeeping ability, was to be Business Manager: versa- tile Art Tinley, with his gift of gab, was given the job of Circulation Manager: Annamae Bush was the choice for chief of the Literary Staff, and Roger Bauer was delegated to head the Feature Department. In view of his athletic tendencies, Russell Sandberg was elected to super- vise that portion of the annual, and the lad behind the Verdantique's candid camera was Red Ordman, whose click caught many a person unaware. Assisting these leaders were a staff of capable and co- operative students. The faculty advisor for our publication was Miss Evelyn Bannon, and Mr. Shafranski was consulted on financial matters. The Verdantique represents collectively the time and talent of the many individuals who willingly directed their efforts toward the pro- duction of our annual. Blue ribbons are in order for the staff, and special credit is offered to every student and friend who helped back the book by offering time and effort. THE CHATTERBOX The high school news is ably reported in the column, The Chatter- box, conducted in the local newspaper. In past years this column was the task of one individual, but this year the Journalism Class assumed this responsibility. Margaret Hunkeler acts as Editor, while Annamae Bush is Sports Editor. 34 x s Vfx X xx' 'ff . Isaiah 2 '4 il
