Wofe San Francisco California June 2, I97l Dear Suzie, I haven't seen you since we graduated 20 years ago. I have just returned from Hawaii. Whiletherel watched those lovely Hawaiian dancers -- Jenny Meadows, Phyllis Owens, Doris Thornsburg Tudor, Marie Tibbs, and Wapella Walder. Accompanying them on theirguitars were Bob Bryan, Vernon Centers, Bob Ever- hart, and Louis Sanders. You'll never guess whol saw while there! Mr. and Mrs. Charles Joy, the former Ruth Taulbee, Hearldean Johnson and wife, Charlotte Chilton, who are partners in the J and J Oil Well. The Captain of the luxury liner was Bill Dennis. His able crew was composed of Ed Birkhimer, Glenn Barker, and Theron Long. Faye Stomper Charleston was the hostess, with Lloyd Creech Jim Davis, and Larry Crist as head waiters. Pat Cooke, Ada Hale, Gaynol Patton, and Dora Terry prepared the wonderful meals. Oh, Suzie, do you remember our Monocle advisor, Mr. F. J. Schmieder? One night his I2 children were crying and he had to amuse them, sa he jumped overboard. M'Della Williams, the English Channel swimmer, rescued him. Doctors Glenn Dye and Bob Chambers saves his life with the help of Mary Craycraft, Rose Mary Scobin, and Patsy Lucas, Registered Nurses. My first night in Hawaii I visited a famous niteclub owned by Don Dumbord and Homer Fultz. As I entered the door, I was greeted by Velma Pressler Goodman and Wilma Leonard, the hat-check girls. There was a wonderful floor show. It began with the chorus line made up of those lovely girls, Joan Rader, Janet Speigle Thatcher, Pat Selby Anthony, Pat Townsend Rossi, Madge Pasley, Midlred McCoy and Patsy Byers Boxwell . Jim Collier and June lhle with their Dancing Feet , were featured next. Pat Runkles and Mary Newman were the vocalists with Jim Wills and Ed Peterman's band. Members of the band were Forrest Swango, Jim Kemp, Vernon Kowell, Bob Niederman, and Dick Wilson. I went to the barber shop the next day and found my old friends Marge Halsey and Ann Kinser were co- owners. Their assistants were Hazel Hill, Betty Howell Miller, Dorothy Eaton, and Janet Eiler. I watched Dotty Gabbard and Cathy Curton Deaton's baseball team with the World Series. Players were Jean Busby, Frances Burgher, Eva Hampton, LaVern Moore, Sue Farquer, Sue Taylor Duff, and Roxie Evans. Umpires were Rebecca Unger and M'Della Williams. Also playing were Larry Hensley and Jim Harrison's All American football team. The star playerswere Wayne Hayes, Dewey Lawson, Charles Doebler, Gene Gilbert, Don Hall, Jim Johnston, Jack Muncy, Don Ponder, Jack Reidel, Doug Stallsmith, and Fred Good. Referees for the game were Fred Carroll, Reese Wise, Lowell Strayer, and Smith Majors. Larry's wife, Mary LaFayette Hensley, with millions of others, gave support to the team. During the half Normal Barnes led the All American band. I also visited Bill Anthony and Barbara Preusch's art school. Among their pupils are Barbara Moore and Mary Sue Harris. On my way home I stopped in Cincinnati to see the Ice Follies. The skating stars were our old school chums, Lois Duff Botos, Ruth Gingerich, Jean Hughes Druer, Delores Sabota, Peg Trimble Eisle, Gene Cole, Clarence Tusing, Dick Hinds, and Bill Kesterman. I saw the wonderful Dogpatch Race I Mary Hardeman and Bill Childers provided the hillbilly music, while Jimmie Powers, Jean Lee, and Shirley Springfield chased after Bill Landis, Al Mclntosh, and Von Ketron. My New York Journal has just arrived and l notice that Norma Viel is the editor with Don Bell, Lois Sparks Lorine Cornett, Jim Wander, and Pauline Moore as reporters. A little farther down the page I see that Gaye Sorrell Meeks has just become an assistant in the O'Dell Funeral Home. Helping in the funeral home are: Cathy Geary, Wanda Whisman, and Jerry Hammond. I also see that Dina DeBolt Herring is an assistant in the Julliard Music School. The music faculty is composed of Elaine Loxley, Vernon Banks, and Peg Heflin. That's all the news at present but I shall write again soon. Your friend, Monroe H. Ruth Taulbee and Charles Joy were chosen as the royal couple for the eve. Gaye Sorrell, last year's queen, crowned both. King Charles then commanded the court entertainers to perform a skit called Cupid's Capers . lt revolved around a couple who had had a quarrel and then made up when, with Cupid's good things they had shared since last year's dance. The lunchroom was decorated in a Valentine theme with sparkling hearts and cupids hanging from the ceiling . The entrance way was made into an arch with red and white streamers out in the pattern of a large heart. A large white heart with red crepe paper ruffles adorned the royal throne. Cupid's Capers was written across the heart in glittering red letters.
