JUNIOR -SENIOR BANQUET The annual Junior-Senior Banquet of Leland High School was held April 20, 1951, at the Leland Lion's Club. It proved to be the most successful banquet ever given for our school. The theme of Moonlight and Roses was carried out beautifully, the room being decorated with ivy and roses. Special guests of the evening included Mr. J. T. Denning, Superintendent of the Brunswick Coun- ty Board of Educationg Miss Alice Ann Edwards, tap dancer, accompanied by her parents, and Miss Lucille Britt, pianist. After dinner was served, everyone relaxed for a floor show, which included everything from Aa magician to hula -dancers. Our greatest appreciation goes to the Ladies' Auxiliary and the Lion's Club for their splendid help in making our banquet a success.

.ii 'ivrr 15?-'g N 11151 Q A 1 N I CLASS HISTORY Several of us, the Class of '52, gathered on the Senior steps, guarding our Senior privilege of the front door from the underclassmen, and at the same time, doing a little reminiscing. Remember, said James Lennon wistfully, when we were green little freshmen? It doesn't seem like four years ago. I know, responded Donna Skipper. That was when Danny Brew was president of the class, Martha Medlin, secretary, and Mrs. Jenkins, our homeroom teacher. We really gave her a hard time, even though we were supposedly shy freshmen. The Glee Club gave the operetta, Hearts and Blossoms, that year, re- member? Patsy Gainey and Floyd Sellars had the leads. It turned out to be one of the biggest events. Oh, yes! Don't forget our sophomore year! chimed in Floyd. That's when we started raising money to give the Junior-Senior banquet for the fol- lowing year. A few girls in the class served at the Junior-Senior banquet that year. That was the year in which Danny was class president, Christine Hewitt, secretary, and Drew Fulcher, treasurer. Mrs. Morse was our homeroom teacher. We gave the operetta, Gypsy Troubadour, with Patsy and Danny star- ring, continued Floyd. That was a big success. A silence fell over us as our thoughts went back over our four years in high school--back to the little happenings that seemed so unimportant theng to the ball games, parties, homework, and other events. I thought our Junior year was nicest, Deloris broke the silence. We kept the gym store, 'The Tiger's Den', to raise money for the Junior-Senior banquet. That was really a fine banquet, wasn't it? A group of proud Juniors watched the expressions of surprise and appreciation on the Senio1's'faces that night at the Lion's Club. Wasn't that the year Danny was presidentg James, vice -presidentg Mar- tha, secretaryg Drew, treasurerg and Mrs. Geedy, our advisor? asked Donna. Yes, and also the time we took a 'day off' and went to look for a Christ- mas tree, said James. As the year ended, we found ourselves taking part in the graduation exercises. The marshals were Morris Sue, Drew Fulcher, Danny Brew, Jenny Lewis, and Martha Medlin, who was chief. I think the Senior year is best for everyone, Morris Sue added. Wher we elected class officers, Martha was chosen presidentg Floyd, vice-presi- dentg Kay Raynor, secretary, Inez Skipper, treasurer, and Mrs. Geedy, ad- visor. l thought I'd breeze right through the last year, but I found out dif- ferently. Ihad to study more as a Senior than before. I like the privileges of going to lunch early and having full charge of the front steps. The conversation slowly grew dim to my ears as I resorted to my own thoughts. Some were bringing back the day we ordered invitations, calling cards, and caps and gowns. Others were talking of our course in journalism and the trip to the newspaper offices. But I began to think, sadly but rather proudly, of the time when we would break the ties between us and the school life which we had become a part of through those past twelve years. w Class Historian, Drew Fulcher I
