7!:e is cccc or as e cccc lilly. -lie 0444 Sendo-4 Glafufi Gwffiffe Farewell thou little school with rocky gramd, Magnificent spirit in which thou doth abound, leave thee to others peaceful care, all our memories, our trials of grandeur rare. Farewell, we We leave you in solitude to dwell, into life's great bolmdless well. Who knows what joys, what toils, what heartaches we will face, Out in this world of life and endless space. We leave you As we go out But life is what you make it so they say, either good or bad. So then, we will make it good and then be glad, - 'Ihen with a long and heartfelt sigh, We will bid you this, Oir Senior Goodbye. James Edward Hitler Class Poet. Last sumner, July 12, 1970, to be exact, I decided to make tour of the United States. Having married a multi-millionaire, Paul Peterson, who died back in '65, leaving me his millions, there were no financial obstacles to my plans. My chauffeur arrived at 7:30 a.m., and we left my mansion in Brooklyn, New York for Gxicago. An old friend of mine, Charlie Bob- erson, had planned a grand opening of his night club, 'Ihe Ritz, for the following evening. I attended and to my surprise, Betty Williams had signed a contract with Charlie as singer. She sounded as much like a bullfrog as ever. leaving Chicago, we drove to Texas and spent a glorious week on lester Scott's ranch. I still have a touch of Texas in my walk. Arrived in New Orleans and decided to do some shopping. I found one of my old classmates, Lessene Ganey, who is owner of a large chain of dress shops. She told me that Anne Fulcher is supervisor of nurses at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. I asked if she had heard the news about Willis Peterson's electim to the United States Senate. She couldn't believe that Willis had become a politician. Before returning hane to New York, I decided to spend a few days at Miami Beach, Florida. As I entered the lobby of the hotel, I saw a tall, stately gentleman, who looked familiar. 'lhen I recognized him -- Jinmy Butler, that is. He owns several hotels. He was plan- ning to visit Leland in a ccuple of weeks and asked me to join him. O1 our trip to Leland I told him that I had seen all of my classmates except me. Neither ofus knew where to find him. Arriving in Leland, we stopped at a lovely cafeteria for lunch. 'lhere we found our last classmate, Johnnie Wootton. It seens he married a local girl, Betty Parker. 'Ihey have three sons at the lhiversity, twodaughters married, and one daughter in dear old Leland High. Time does fly, doesn't it? Hilda Hickman 3

Samba elafu Jfidldfuf Four years ago when we entered into high school, we were in- significant eighth graders who had practically no part in the activ ities of the school. Today as seniors, we have our thumbs in many of the doings of the school. As a class we have perhaps been aver- age, yet through some of our harder-working classmates we have beer able to accomplish some of our activities in a superior nmnner. In every undertaking the school has embarked upon, the seniors have had a big part. The class of 1949 has participated in sports, nusic, dramatics, and other extra-curricular activities in a super- ior manner. Qxr Class was organized early in its jlmior year with Anne Fulcher as President, Lester Scott, as Vice-president, and Betty Willians as Secretary and Treasurer. Under the leadership of these capable juniors, we sponsored a Valentine party. The proceeds from this activity went to stage an annual Junior-Senior Banquet, which was me of the outstanding social events of the year. Because of her superior work, Pnne Fulcher was chosen as chief hhrshal. lester Scott, and Lessene Ganey were chosen as marshals for their junior year. Gnosen early in the year as senior class officers were, Johnnie Wootton, presidentg Willis Peterson, Vice-President, and Betty Wil- lians, Secretary. Lester Scott, Historian
