Leland's first-year team was an extremely pleasant surprise to all lexcept other coachesl because they demonstrated skills not usually associated with a beginning club. Soccer requires unusual skills not normally developed by American boys because in games we think with our hands rather than with our feet. However, Leland's athletes were quick to learn dribbling, tackling, kicking of many varieties, as well as the special techniques used in heading the ball. Outstanding members were: Captain Dave Boswell, Center Forward Mark Smith, who contributed much with his great skills and playmaking ability, Wings Bob Wood and Ralph Lundberg, Inside lim Harding Halfback Al Wagner, Chuck Wimpee, Kim Hancock and Dave iMannyJ Samples, Fullbacks joe Taormino and Big T Ted Walls, and outstanding Goalie Mark Robards. Depth on this team was also an important factor with such exemplify boosters as: Rich Singer, Dan Terrell, Tom Davison, Ernie Mendoza, Tom Wilkus, Don Saia, Rich Fisher, lssy Pumarada, Rich Avidano and Bill Schisano. It is expected that next year will be a banner one because of the return of players Lundberg, Robards, Singer, Davison, Hancock, Wimpee, Wagner and Bosewell, plus outstanding IV additions.
