Leland back brought down after Z short gain. Zfhough hampered bg injuries and lack of ereperience ,Celand 's gridmen never lost their spirit in their effort to bring victorg to Leland. With a team composed of ineuperrenced jnrfivf-S and Sfrtivfi, coaches. Kent ,Hiller and Don Bell developed a football team which ang school could have pride in. Jn the chargers second ganre the gridmen traveled to Piedmont flills J-ligh School Piedmont a powerhouse in the ,,1l.fl.,A.L'. looked like no match for the rookie chargers. .At the kick of Piedmont discovered that Leland knew the meaning of the word tackle. ,fl look at the scoreboard at habtime showed a O-O deadlock. ,At the beginning of the fourth guarter the score remained the same. Piedmont 's depth proved the deciding factor as theg hnallg proved victorious but onlg after ,Celand showed that theg knew how to plag football. Che storg was the same in three of ,Celand 's other contests. ln the ,Cive Oak. San fose and Gilrog games the 6'harger gridmen showed that theg had pride in their school and spirit. Zfhe hnal game of the season was the garrre which brought vietorg horrre to Leland. The varsitg gridmen showed their appreciation for the support which the student bodg had given them bg giving thenr a 35 -O viclorg over Oak Grove. Z7he ineuperienced 6'hargers showed their willingness to learn when it came tirrre for All-league selections. Receiving All-,Ceague recognition, were Kim Krieder, Pat Moore. Tom Uoleman, ,Mike Edgemon, Glen Grimditch and Dave Salazar. Zfhe charger defense tries to stop a tough ll7llow tjlen offense. 94
