THE 1555 LE- HI LEIPSIC OHIO FOREWORD To an outsider, our class ring may seem the same as any other, but to us, the Class of 59, it will hold with it many memories. Just to wear this ring has been and will remain a thrill to all of us. We are very proud of it now, but after ten or twenty years, when it begins to wear, it will mean even more. Actually, this is only the beginning of this ring — the years to come are up to its wearer. Our rings set us apart from all other graduates of Leipsic High School, because our rings are labelled Class of 59, and each of us has earned our ring in our own special way. We are proud of what our ring represents, Leipsic High School, Class of 1959. TABLE OF CONTENTS FACULTY SENIORS CLASSES ADVERTISING SPORTS MUSIC ACTIVITIES OUR ALMA MATER WE THANK TOU We, the Senior Class of 1959, wish to take this opportunity to thank the community for their support to our money-making projects. Some of the many were: rummage sales, junior and senior plays, magazines, and Christmas cards. Without their help our trip to Washington D. C. and New York would not have been possible. We also want to express our thanks for their voting “yes on the school bond issue and the additional rooms levy. We wish to thank our parents for their patient love and guidance which has helped us along the road of education. May we in future years go farther, and better ourselves from their guidance. We also want to thank the faculty for their encouragement and understanding during the past twelve years. May their teachings leave a lasting impression on us. 2 LEVS GO TO PRESS ANNUAL STAFF FRONT ROW: Charles Reed, Assistant Photographer; Imogene Zeisloft, Assistant Business Manager; Karen Clausen, Assistant Editor; Mrs. Hartley, Adviser; Kay Baker, Editor, Miriam Benton, Business Manager; Jeff Schreiber, Photographer; Shiilee Ward, Assistant Literary Editor; Don Pfister, Assistant Advertising Manager; Beverly Buerschen, Advertising Manager; Marlene Altman, Art Editor, Judy Young, Literary Editor, and Betty Rieman, Subscription Manager. School was beginning at L. H. S. for the 1959-’60 school term. We would not be there. It was sad. We had such glorious times in that school. It all began in the year 1955. We were just F reshmen. We had a big class of 60 members. We had to get down to business. We chose Mike Moorman as President; Kay Baker, Dale Dildine, and Richard Brooks as Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer respectively. Jack Shoemaker and Martha Wilson were elected to represent us in the Student Council. We chose Mrs. White as our class adviser. (Hope she can put up with us.) Our activities of the 1955-’56 year included Freshman Day in charge of the seniors; the Freshman Reception by the sophomores; and a skating party just for us. Our junior high basketball team with Myrna Dewar, Judy Mull, Bobbe Kress, and Judy Young as cheerleaders took 2nd place in the Putnam County Tournament, (We were all very proud of them.) We started our Sophomore year with 54 members. We elected Pat Siebeneck, Mike Moorman, Janice Tawney, and Miriam Benton as our class officers. Ken Kaufman and Kay Baker were chosen as Student Council members. Our activities were the reception we held for the freshmen; the D. J. dance; and the trip to the F. C. Russell Company in Pandora. We knew we needed money so we held two rummage sales. The big thing was the day we ordered our class rings. Cheerleading tryouts were held in May and two of our girls, Pat Chamberlin and Bobbe Kress, were elected as cheerleaders. All 51 members of the Class of ’59 were glad to see the Junior year come. (We never thought we'd make it.) We received our class rings the first week. Our class officers were as follows: Richard Brooks, President; Kay Baker, Vice-President; Pat Chamberlin, Secretary; and Janet Fralick, Treasurer. Eddie Robinson and Miriam Benton were chosen as our representatives to the Student Council. Our class play, “Take Your Medicine under the direction pfMr. Christy was a great success. The Junior-Senior Prom with the theme “Oriental Garden” turned out fine. Our class put out its first VIKING with Myrna Dewar as Editor-in-Chief. The annual cheerleading tryouts were held, and when the returns came in, there were, three girls of our class chosen. Pat Chamberlin and Bobbe Kress were re-elected and Beverly Buer-schen was also elected. When September 2, 1958 rolled around, we could hardly believe that we were Seniors. The first thing we did was elect officers. Ken Kaufman and Virginia Peck were chosen Co-Presidents; Pat Siebeneck as Secretary; and Jack David as Treasurer. We also chose our class motto, flower, and colors. Eddie Robinson and Miriam Benton were elected President and Vice-President of the Student Council. We got our fill of selling at the football and basketball games. Our biggest project was the selling of Christmas cards. The senior play was the best senior play ever put on in L. H. S. (So we say.) The Junior-Senior Prom was a success and enjoyed by all the seniors. Baccalaureate was the Sunday before we left on our senior trip. We visited Washington D. C. and New York. It was really NEATI The grand finale finally came. GRADUATION. Since we are now graduates of L. H. S. we say thanks to the faculty and to our adviser, Mrs. White, for their guidance throughout our high school days. 27 MIRROR, MIRROR, ON THE WALL, WHAT WILL THE FUTURE BRING TO ALL? THIS IS MY ANSWER TO THE CLASS OF ’59: YOUR LUCK AND FORTUNE WILL BE SUBLIME! The Detroit Lions, coached by Dave “Sham” Zimmerman, won the Western Division title. Chuck Burner, running in the fullback slot for the Lions, was picked as the outstanding player of the All-Pro team. Judy King runs a summer camp for cheerleaders and majorettes. Her No. 1 cheerleader is Pat Chamberlin, a veteran from two years at L. H. S. and four years at Ohio State. Marlene Altman, who liked to draw, put her talent to good use. Her pictures make the cover of the Saturday Evening Post at least once a month. Howard Alt is following in his dad’s footsteps. He is a janitor too, but of a much bigger place. The Empire State Building. For this lie needs assistants. He has two very good ones, Jerry MacDonald and Bernard Niese. Miriam Benton, the ornery preacher’s daughter, is busy manufacturing the “P. K.'S KIT”. It consists of all the latest dirty tricks. Betty Rieman is the first woman President. She is running the country fine. She has appointed Linda Duncan and Dorothy Schroeder as good-will ambassadors. Jack David owns the biggest Sohio station this side of the Mississippi. His best mechanics are Bob Alt and Stuart Smith. The Hub Market chain is lengthening every day. WHY? Because of its efficient head manager, Roy Inbody. Kay Baker worked her way up from editor of our Le-Hi to the editor-in-chief of the most famous newspaper around, The New York Times. Her three Johnny-on-the-spot reporters are Edward Knueven, Dorothy Dickey, and John Casteel. Ginny Peck liked convertibles so much while in high school that she now owns three of her own. One is tile new “TORNADO” designed by Dale Dildine. Jeff Schrieber is the best photographer in the world. He travels all over the globe taking pictures of such important people as Queen Elizabeth and Princess Kelley. Myrna Dewar is the head nurse at Lima St. Rita’s hospitaL Her two most efficient staff nurses are Beverly Buerschen and Janice Bass. Dick Barbier and Gerald Keeran are competing for the honor of head salesman for the Fuller Brush Company. It seems as if neither can beat the other. Martha Jane Wilson and Janet Fralick, who were bosom friends in high school, have put their friendship to work for diem. They have a “lovelorn” column in the PARENTS magazine that keeps such married couples as Bobbe (Kress) and Eddie Robinson on friendly terms with each other. Larry “Nellie” Knoll just took first place in die last three stock car races. Just give him time — he,U be the champ some day. Joan Bender and Dorotiiy Mae Schroeder have changed from their quiet and bashful ways. They are now top-notch lecturers on Love and Marriage. Virgil Niese, president of our F.F.A. in ’58 and ’59, went to college and studied Vocational Agriculture. He is teaching it and his classes get superior ratings for their work. Richard Brooks, voted most music-minded of the Class of ’59, has become the greatest “Rock ’n Roll” singer since Elvis. He has sold 15 million records since 60. Of course, his manager, Judy Mull, gets one-half his earnings. Bonnie Vance is now Mrs. Lauren Garman. She’s busy teaching her kids how NOT to be so ornery. John Kimmet is kept busy enforcing the Original Package Doctrine for dry states. His A-l helpers are Richard Schroeder and Ron Haselman. Ken Kaufman, playing shortstop for the New York Yankees, has set a new record in home runs. Wonder what Babe Ruth would say if he knew that???? Pat Ellerbrock, our little peanut” is trying to help other short girls by making elevator shoes that lift from 5 to 6 inches. She‘s been a little worried lately so she got Karen Desgrange to help her. Together they made one that would lift 10 inches. Mike Moorman, the “brain” in math, is teaching it at Vassar. He was offered the job as Dean of Boys at Princeton. We all wonder why he didn’t accept it??? Betty Kohls, using her wit, has sold 10 best seller novels. It seems that one was about two of our classmates, Jack Shoemaker and Pat Siebeneck. Its title is “For The Good Of A Family”. , Rita Ellerbrock is still on a farm. She’s kept busy helping her husband raise “wheat and oats”. Fred Arnold is making sure that he’ll be on time from now on. He owns the Big Ben Timepiece Store. Mari Bryan is his head salesgirL JUNIOR OFFICERS Phyllis Meyer, Secretary; Fred Meyer. President;KarenClausen, Vice-President; Don Pfister, Treasurer.
