Clerical Office Bookkeeping Chemistry Typing American Problems Industrial Arts American Literature American Problems In the fall of 1949, sixty-four entered the freshmen class together with pupils from Belmore, St. Mary's, and Leipsic. In the early part of the year we chose the following officers to lead our class: President, Betty Henry; Vice President, Bill Warren; Secretary, Marjorie Lindsey; and Treasurer, David Huntsman. During the first month the Sophomores subjected us to a Freshmen reception. To guide us through the next four years of High School we choose Mrs. White as our adviser. The year flew on in a breeze and soon we had reached our sophomore year. As our leaders we chose LaDonna Ward, President; Don Shaffer, Vice President; Judy Dillon, Secretary; Marjorie Lindsey, Treasurer. This year we held a class party each month. We also had lots of fun planning the freshmen reception. The highlight of the year was ordering our class rings. As we began our junior year we started working toward our Senior trip. To lead our class we chose Deloris Reed as President, Shirley Haughn as Vice President; Marjorie Lindsey as Secretary, and Doris Johnson as Treasurer. To start our project we had a bake sale and a paper drive. Then we took time out to present a Junior class play “Almost Summer '. To continue our project, we had a turkey and ham supper which turned out to be very successful. At this same time we were also busy selling all occasion cards. During the county tournament we Juniors were busy selling programs. In March our class undertook the selling of magazine subscriptions. Before we knew it we had reached the threshold of our Senior year. For the tremendous task of leading our class through the last year of high school we elected as Co-president Deloris Reed and Bill Warren. Secretary; Margaret Fenbert; and Treasurer, Shirley Haughn. With high hopes for the future we launched into a busy schedule of lessons and activities, under the wise guidance of our adviser Mrs. White. We sold at the football and basketball games. We sold many Christmas cards and with the help of our mothers served a turkey and ham supper. Near the climax of our busy year we presented a play and carried out the final plan concerning our trip to Washington D.C. and New York City. We attended baccalaureate services together and in the evening of that day we left for our 5 day trip. Then we returned for the Commencement Exercises which marked the end of our high school days which have meant so much to us. Oh, we love the Halls of Ivy, That surround us here today. And we will not forget though we be far, far away. One fine day as we were working in our laboratory, we were surprised and rather frightened to see a cloud forming. Suddenly a little man with a big machine appeared from the cloud. He told us that we could see into the future with this machine. He called the machine a Peregrinator. Then he and the cloud disappeared. After we had overcome our surprise, we decided to look twenty years into the future and see what our classmates were doing. The first classmate to appear on the screen was RICHARD A. He was a traffic cop and was busy directing traffic at Hogen Spogen Boulevard where traffic was seldom seen. Then we heard a familiar voice say, “Well, we’re off to Mars.” It was the famous explorer RICHARD B. in his two seated rocket ship and his partner RICHARD S. Just then a black streamlined car zipped around the corner and, we saw that Speed-demon MARJORIE ? was at the wheel with her little “shavers hanging out the windows. She was coming to let them see the famous rocket ship for the first time. What should appear next on the screen but the front of a huge grocery store! It seems that JERRY M. is the owner of ten chain stores and is doing quite well for himself. Next on our screen appeared a pretty little cottage and inside we saw EDITH B. relaxing with the newspaper. And whose pictures do you suppose we saw?--DARLENE W. and JEANETTE R. They were listed as two of the ten best dressed women in the world. A football game appeared next on the screen. Army and Navy were playing their annual football game and much to our surprise we found that DONS, was the coach for Army. The final score was 50 to 0. Hmmmm. During the half the Navy Band played, and for the first time in history there were girls playing in the band. CHARLENE R. led the band and was known as the best baton twirler in the United States. MARY C. and DELORIS R. were distinguished players also found in the band. Next we saw a hospital and in one of the rooms DORIS J. was reading HOW TO GET THE MOST FROM YOUR STUDIES by the famed author VIRGIL B. Suddenly we heard a commotion in the hall. SHIRLEY H., the head nurse was scolding JANE K. and BONNIE B. for flirting with the interns. The Capitol Building flashed before our eyes and we saw the President of the United States SAM M. and his cabinet members, BETTY L., EDDIE B., JUDY D., and ROY G. with their hands full trying to oust the President from office. Next, a beautiful hillside with the very famous artists ALICE D. and LEOMA N. were painting this scene. Next, we saw a professional basketball game with MARIE N. and LUELLA W. as contesting captains. The scene then changed to a meeting of the U.N. where we saw NANCY L. the world’s best interpreter interpreting FRED R.’s speech. It seems that Fred’s words are more easily interpreted than his writing. We then viewed a scene from the Supreme Court with BILL W. as the Chief Justice of the United States and RONNIE K. and ROBERT K. as judges. An airplane then zoomed over with FRANKLIN M. and DUANE K. as pilots and DEWILLA B. and MARILYN D. as stewardesses. TheSteam Electric plant at Salem, Massachusetts flashed across the screen with REX S. as manager. JAMES H. and LORETTA H. are foremen here. MARILYN T. and JOANNE K. have a popular program of their own on color television. DOROTHY S. is in South America supplying the U.S. with banannas from her well tended bananna orchards. LOUANN N. is the very capable head matron at a war orphanage. In Atlantic City we find SHELBA B. and WINIFRED U. as contestants in the Mrs. America contest. Swish--------the little man appeared and took the machine, but we’re sure that you will agree that the Class of 1954 has been very successful.
