There has also been another person who has given our class tremendous leadership throughout two of our toughest years. Without him we would not have been able to accomplish as much as we did. That September of 1 9 7B, we were initiated into the rites of high school life; studies in the Caf, rotating schedules, bathroom passwords, and activity periods, to name just a few. Settling down to the more serious aspects of our first year, we elected our officers, Ginny Maher — President, Irene Vancellette — Vice President, Kelly McMenemy — Secretary, and Lisa Wetherbee — Treasurer. With our leaders firmly established, we launched an illustrious fund-raising campaign. We pushed posters and paid dues with zealous fervour — for some reason or other, however, the treasury re¬ mained empty. In sports that year the victorious teams were invariably female; the girls Varsity basketball team, the Terrible Towel, was undefeated with a record of 21-0, and the Softball team was Division Champion. Fortunately for the guys, the football team rescued masculine pride by finishing their season with a Thanksgiving Day victory over David Prouty. Perhaps the most memorable events of our Freshmen year were the two infamous science field trips. In the Fall of 1 978, two busloads of rowdy freshmen travelled to Mt. Monadnock, ready to brave the grueling climb to the summit. Ambi¬ tion, however, was soon replaced by tedium, and several stragglers were still climbing as the rest of the group descended. Nevertheless, the day was deemed a success. In the Spring of 1 9 79, Mr. Lindsey’s Earth Science classes set off for a week-end of “sun and fun” at the Cape. Despite continued down¬ pours that threatened to annihilate their flimsy shelters, the dauntless group managed to have a good time and even learn something — all this to the tune of We’re All Sleeping In A Wet Tent Tonigh. ” The rest of thq$ year passed unevent¬ fully as we watched the Class of ’ 79 graduate, and looked forward to our Sophomore year. The school year of 1 9 79-80 will go down in LHS history as the year of the bomb scare. When the dust finally settled after all the excite¬ ment, we found that we had elected, Irene Van¬ cellette — President, Sharon Tolman — Vice President, Kelly McMenemy — Secretary, and Cindy Flagg — Treaurer. Realizing that our vir¬ tually empty treasury spelled disaster, our offi¬ cers planned a car wash. Unfortunately, the scheme collapsed when no-one showed up to work and both stations had to be shut down — our financial efforts declined from there. Oh yes, there was one major fund-raising effort, the jewelry sale. Anyone still owing money please see Mr. Davis in Rm. 8. The sports scene that year was pretty bleak with only the girls softball and basketball teams finishing up their seasons with successful rec¬ ords. In the Spring of 1 980, the hostages were taken captive in Teheran, and LHS experienced her very own Iranian bomb scare — a phone call that will live in infamy. We finished off the year in high style with our Sophomore class trip to Rocky Point Park, a great time for all. CWhy does she have to sit on the bus? Tsk, TskD. Ah, finally, our Junior year, upperclassmen at last, lunch line rights and tray duty for under- classmen!! A new hallway and no more gymnas¬ tics in Phys. Ed. That fall, Ronald Reagan was elected Presi¬ dent of the United States and we elected Irene Vancellette — President, Sharon Tolman — Vice President, Kelly McMenemy— Secretary, and Chris Anderson — Treasurer. With visions of the Junior Prom waltzing through our minds, we set to work on our empty treasury. Welcom¬ ing Mr. Davis as our new advisor, we set up a dance marathon, a concert, carnation sales, and, of course, car washes. Once again, the sports scene was saved by the winning records of the girls basketball and softball teams. The football team achieved a respectable 5-5 sea¬ son, but for the second year in a row the Thanksgiving Day results were dismal. Winning isn’t everything, however and the effort and commitment that these players displayed was phenomenal. After a bleak and uneventful winter, the arriv¬ al of Spring and warm weather reminded us all of the fast approaching Prom. Finally, the long awaited day arrived. Dressed in tuxedos and evening gowns and looking far more respect¬ able than anyone believed was possible, we ar¬ rived at Holden Hills Country Club. Joshua Tree played excellent evening of music, and helped to pick our Queen and court. Debbie Daigle was the 1981 Junior Prom Queen and the mem¬ bers of her court were Susan Norberg, Kathy Lucke, Cindy Flagg, and Lisa Moberg. Great times at Shorty’s and Sandy’s afterwards helped to make it an evening we will never forget, and the beach and Chris’s camp the next day Cwith free food provided by Cumber¬ land FarmsD made it even better. By the time all the excitement had died down, we realized that it was time for us to watch for the last time, another class graduate — next year it would be our turn. At long last, our dreams had been realized! Upperclassmen to all! Our Senior year! That September of 1SQ1, we entered the halls of LHS knowing that it would be our last first day of school in this building — our home away from home for four long years. We elected Irene Van¬ cellette — President, Jeff Snay — Vice Presi¬ dent, Kelly McMenemy — Secretary and Chris Anderson — Treasurer. It just isn’t possible to remember, describe, and list all the emotions, memories, and situations that have effected us during this past year. Each of us holds in his or her heart those memories that have made our Senior year so unforgettable . . . Candy Sales, the Senior Class Play, the large group of people who went on the Senior Class Trip, weddings, illegal sodas, the List,” whale watching, Quab- bin days, etc. Now with only two more events left, the Senior Dinner Dance at the El Morroco and graduation, we want ot take this time to look back and remember the more memorable events of our four years together. So sit back, relax, and enjoy . . . Do you remember: When the courtyard could be used? Foggy Bathrooms? Bop Nagel? Looking for help to open your locker? 30 cent lunch, AO cent lunch, 50 cent lunch, 70 cent lunch? Party’s? The matron? Putting in overtime in, in Rm. -40? Tunnels from the boy’s room to the girl’s? The Walt Disney re-production in Mrs. Ave- dian’s room? The Slim Whitman Band? What Mr. Davis found on our hike at the Cape? Fishing in the parking lot? Egg Shampoos at the Cape?
