Probably the most out going and surprising class to have ever hit the hallowed halls of L.H.S., we certainly have left our mark in many ways. Freshman year we entered as the usual frightened mass clogging the halls in September of ' 77. Amidst cries of I can ' t get my locker open and How do you get to the second floor? we had our very first elections which resulted in: Jackie Hebert as President, Maria Tsikas as Vice President, Candy Morse as Treasurer, and Michelle Thibeault as Secretary. Some of the highlights for the year included the usual freshman fundraisers. The three-man, oh! I should say three person car washes seemed to bring in the most amount of mone y. Our class advisor, Mr. Lamarche, used to dread calling those disjointed class meetings. In the fall of that year we were granted our first class trip. That was to Mount Manadnock, in which a very large percentage of the young, able bodied freshmen were beat to the summit by Mr. Rochette. He probably still could beat a majority of us to the peak. Our second trip was just as sensational as the first. This time it was an overnighter to the Cape. Visiting various places such as Wood ' s Hole and Canal were just as enlighting to us as to our chaperons: Mr. Hair, Mr. Lindsay, and Sue Germain. Gym classes? Oh yea, who can forget those. The two to three weeks that we square danced has to be the most memorable along with Tim ' s absent mind. Forgetting to put on gym shorts is not very profound. Tim Keddy and Mike Dizzy Kenneway represented the class on the football team. Some highlights of that season were a preseason camp at Williston-North Hampton School and a 16-0 victory over Prouty on Thanksgiving Day. The girls basketball team finished second in League play, and the softball team took first place. In the fall of ' 78 we had that great, comeback feeling, primarily because we were Superior to the freshmen. The results of the elections taken at the end of the freshmen year were now put into effect with Michelle Thibeault as President, Eileen McCue as Vice President, Lynn Brown as Treasurer, and Debbie Hull as Secretary. When it came to fund raising our advisor, Mr. Baziliauskas, was right with the program. Those typical carwashers, now up to a four man team, and the selling of Easter Lollipops brought our account to be a reasonable sum. However, prior to the Lollipops we sold ski hats. If anyone is interested in buying one see Miss Tournas in Room 25. Come springtime of that year we all looked forward to the Sophomore class trip. Where? To Riverside Amusement Park with a stop off at Chickopee State Park. The state park was entertaining, it consisted of about 20 picnic tables surrounding a Safari water hole. The afternoon at the amusement park brought back memories of our carefree days. The class was represented on the football team by five well, all around ball-players. Each assisted in a season record of 4-5-1. The Thanksgiving Day game was a close one. A fourth quarter interception by Bill McGrail set up the games only score to defeat Prouty. The girls basketball team finished an outstanding season with a record of 16 wins and 0 losses. Bunky happened to be the only sophomore on the team at the time. We started our Junior year with our officers being: Michelle Thibeault in her second term as President, Eileen McCue as Vice-President, Johnna Dickinson, Secretary, and as our Treasurer, Debbie Hull. We began with a new hopeful outlook. After all, our lockers were stationed in a different corridor, we now had gym three times a week (OH BOY), we would be giving our first prom later in the year, we had finished our manditory two years of Health with Mr. Nelson and his overhead projector, and perhaps, just perhaps we might be able to finally get rid of those L.H.S. hats, the official albatross of the Class of ' 81. Our bright and cheery attitude soon faded, however, as we learned of higher dues to be collected and the big bucks that would have to be dished out for our Junior Prom. After we came down to earth, we started getting on with the business of being Juniors. With Miss Tournas as our new advisor, we made plans for some badly needed fund-raising. This included selling swishes in school and at games, a volleyball marathon, and the 2nd annual Variety Show. The show was a smashing success with one of the better acts being Doug Flink and Greg Facteau ' s classic Who ' s on First? routine. Highlights in sports that year included Tim Keddy being named Defensive Player of the game in the Thanksgiving Day football game against David Prouty. Unfortunately we lost by a score of 14 to 7. The girls softball team fared better, though, qualifying for the districts. Finally, Junior Prom time, April 18, 1980, had arrived. We all entered looking awesome in rented tuxes and floor-length gowns at the Chateau-de-Ville in Framingham. Chosen as Prom Queen was Lisa Germain with her court including Beth Sullivan, Michelle Lilly, Nancy McKeon and Ann Fortin. Hey, so what if our prom song We ' ve Got Tonight had to be played on a record, because our wonderful band The Coachmen had never even heard of it before? We all had a great time anyway, didn ' t we ... didn ' t we?? Oh well, ending the year with mixed emotions, we bid a fond and reluctant farewell to Mr. Rochette. On the other hand, once we took our last final exams of our high school careers, we embarked on an unforgetable summer, looking forward to total control in the fall. At last September rolled around again and saw the Class of ' 81 as Big Bad Seniors. We elected some new blood to office for this important school year with Paul Burlingame as President, Bob Snow as Vice-President, Tim Keddy as Secretary, and Debbie Hull in a return engagement as Treasurer. Getting down to business early, we realized we ' d have more money woes than even last year. With the class trip, dues, yearbook and Dinner-Dance constantly on our minds, we had to make a fair amount of money. And how else do we do that, but with the annual Senior candy sales. Yes folks, just when you thought it was safe to walk the halls without being verbally abused, in come Seniors with little plastic bags filled with Reeses and Crunch bars. Aside from the fact that Miss Tournas is still waiting for some sales money to come in, we did well in the candy department. The most enjoyable money-making venture for Seniors is the class play. Ours was “M A S H“ with the cast including such great thespians as Bill McGrail and Dennis Seaver, co-starring. Our director, Kevin Cunningham, while not patient to a fault, did a great job with a bunch of amateurs. The final dress rehearsal lasted until 1:00 a.m. Our hard work payed off, though, when we opened on January 10th to rave reviews. In sports this year, we lost the Thanksgiving Day game again to Prouty, 12-0. But, for the second year in a row Tim Keddy was named Defensive player of the game. Tim also was selected to be on the football superteam. Girls ' softball goes to the districts once more this year. The boys varsity basketball team was captained by Tim Keddy and David Ayotte. The fates determined the outcome of the season early when they lost four of the first five games by a total of eight points. And for those of you who thought international terrorism was dead — well it ' s only mortally wounded and recovering in Leicester, Mass. More specifically in an L.H.S. boys room where a realistic-looking bomb laid ticking — the words “Play Dough ominously inscribed on it. Needless to say, the faculty was in a dither, so half the school was evacuated while the other half stayed waiting to be blown to bits. The local bomb squad sped to our rescue and soon put our fluttering hearts to ease when we learned it was, alas, a dud. Every class has its outstanding members, and ours is no exception. Most obvious are our top three students academically: Kim Tadgell, Julie Wood, and Lisa Goodrow, respectively. Julie has been quite the active person, being President of the National Honor Society, recieving the Daughters of the American Revolution award, and selected to be the Telegram and Gazette achiever for Liecester High. Two other equally impressive members are Tim Keddy and Johnna Dickinson, who were chosen as the T and G athletic achievers. Brian Trainque made his debut in politics on student government day, April 3, taking the role of Bob McNeil. Another, uh, unique member of our class is none other than Brian Wood. (The famous Brian Wood). No one could ever forget his now legendary Slim Whitman impression ... or the Spider-Man costume ... or the tuxedo ... or the bunny suit ... There are certain events every Senior looks forward to. One of the mjaor ones is the First Official Senior Skip Day of the season. Our Big Event was April 10th, with one hardy contigent travelling to Hampton, and the others generally being nuisances to society for the day. April saw the arrival of our new principle, Mr. O ' Donnell, as we said goodby to Mr. Toepfer. I ' m sure I speak for the entire class of 81 ' in wishing Mr. O ' Donnell all the best. By the time April vacation arrived, there were thirty or so intrepid seniors anxious to go on the class trip to Washington D.C. From what we hear they had a fantastic time in the Capitol, piling into cabs and discoing ' til all hours of the night. And now finally it is Class Day — June 1, 1981. We look forward to the Senior Dinner-Dance to be held at the quote Rockin El Morocco, with our Rock ' n band Buckland Edge. But you know, there are some things that never change. It is our small way of express¬ ing our token of appreciation to the people most deserving of it. This year we have chosen two recipients. Through the mediums of patience and under¬ standing, this person has guided our hesitant feel through many scholastic difficulties. We look upon this person not only as a past prin¬ cipal, but also a friend. Therefore, it is with great pleasure that we, the Class of 81 , ded¬ icate our yearbook to Mr. Dean T. Toepfer. In addition, during the past two years, prob¬ ably the most difficult to advise, our Advisor guided us through some tough times. With¬ out her, many of our memorable Junior and Senior activities would not have been any¬ where near as successful. We, therefore, with great pleasure also, dedicate our yearbook to Miss Joan Tournas, our Junior and Senior Class Advisor. ff l X Homan satiiTv t donated by Peek-A-Boo! Where ' s Bunky? The Guys?!!
