THE MAROON SENIOR CLASS HISTCRY When the class of 43 made rts appearance on Lerc ster H111 we were looked upon as msrgnrncant freshmen by upper classmen To prove thrs rdea wrong was our goal for 1939 Led by Walter Grguere Edson Deardon Mary rlurney ana H en Gray we annlhrlated our supposedly superror schoolmates at both th Pre hmcnSopftomor track meet and rntra mural basketball Tl us we gatned two trtles and were envred by every class rn L H S As freshmen we also opened the new Lercester t-lrgh School welcomed the resumrng of basket ball and played host to a new member of the the faculty and coachmg staff Mr Semrno We began our sophomor ycar by electrng Art Larrevy presrdent Walt Grguere vrce presr dent Helen Gray secretary and Lva Dalbec Treasurer Led by these capable offrcers we carrred on rn true style by enterrng new members rn all actrvttres at Lercester Hrgh School ln football we were reprc ented by Art Larrevy Grgger Gtguere and our new classmate Pay Dorr rn debatrng by Robert Lawrence and Helen Gray rn basketball by Ed Kmg Art Larrevy and Emrle Mamvrlle and rn baseball by lee Poll ns Ray Dorr and Harry Newell 'We were also well represented rn band and glee club DY tie rnusrcally mrnded members of our class The hrghlrghts of our sophomore year wer the fresn nan receptron the operetta Bobby and Mr Skelleys apporntment as Englrsh rnstructor ln the fall of 4l we returned to Washburn Square shghtly decreased rn members to con ttnue our Journey to hrgh school success At our frrst cla s meetrng we chose Helen Gray treasurer Art Larrevy was chosen a Actrvrtres Repre entatrwe of our class Dave Asklmg enrolled thrs year After a vrctorrous season rn both football ard basketball we were com pelled by entrance of the Unrted States rn war to s ttle d un to a quret half year brrghten ed only by our hrghly successful lumor Prom ln our Jcnrcr year our class was Jorned by l-larrret Hammond and Dorothy Smrth A newcrvrllan aefense syst m was rnstrtuted and a war sawmgs club xx as set up under the gurdance of lvfr Semrno So ended our thrrd year a year successful rn most respects consrderrng tne rntluenc of Ure war on the students and faculty of Lercester We returned to school rn the fall of 42 confrdent of the fact that our class was a neces sary and esrablrshed part of the darly routme at Letcester Well aware of the fact that the war was to make grave changes rn the routme at L ccs er X 1 cted offrcers that could ably lead us through a tryrng semor year Dave Asklmg was unanrmously elected presrdent foe Rollrns was to be our capable vrce presrdent The esa 'loloczko was chosen secretary and Eva Dalbec wa agarn made treasurer All 1nter scholastrc sports were dropped rn our school last year and deprrved the captarns Art Larrevy Ed Krng and loc Rollms of the chancc of leaamg therr teams through another vrctorrous season ln therr place came lntramural sports held by the Actrvrtres Assocratron and led by Mr Skelley and Ed Krng After successfully completrng touch football archery grrl s softball and badmmton the program was changed to Commando Trammg requtred of all hrgh schools DY the state The thrrd edrtrort of the MAPGCN was edrted by Robert Law rence and Helen Gray under the able drrectron of Mrss Kelley The Actrvrtres Assocratlon handrcapped by ratronrng and other war condrtrons conducted the only school dance a successful Qhrrstmas party Greatly decreased rn numb rs by the loss of many semors to armed servrce we de rded to cancel the annual semor Wasnrngton trrp ln rts place we held a dmner dance at the Hrllcrest Country Club Honor s udents for our four years on the hrll were, Helen Gray Robert Lawrence Shrrl y Myers Norma Moreau Davrd Asklmg Eva Dalbec and Iohn Marley Thus we have closed a chapter rn the book of our lrfe a chapt r frlled wrth comedy tragedy vrctory and defeat a chapter that we w1ll revrew often and wrll preserve rn our hearts for many years to come Mark Mullrn itil iihld lllllll 1 ll ili1Iii!!iniUllllliililtllblhliliill' ll ii 1 ill ll i010.0QOQl , . .
