Lehman ls producing strong and sturdy material for the future--personalities which will neither blow about with the winds nor tear in the storms of life. As is the case in any success, Lehman had her rainy days. She started as a small one-room school where the large and small came to learn to read and write. But the original building was replaced by the building which now is our grade school. Our high school today, the latest addition to which is our welcomed cafeteria, is conven- ient, pleasant, and well equipped. Throughout this volume we shall chart the path to success which Lehman is climbing ------- WSTRIVING TO REACH THE STARS.n sNNs'Ns-a1'r.f ', ,ff ,, sNNs'NN- 8 , H vi ' Q 14 1 , xxx v. u N- X, A 4 .,A x n .rv ,Y . if . fs . k V.-gg , 4 L. Nothing but fun on the brain, they stayed four years, and, now, in 1946, they are leaving. School was fun in '42 and '43. We had loads of parties and great times. We were swell-headed over the fact that we had the title of Freshmen, and we made no bones about it. We gave assembly programs, had parties at friends' houses, and as all classes do, deviled the life out of the teachers. September, 1943, we returned! A summer of sun and fresh air had taught us to be strong. Names like Paul Salansky, William Klansek, Loren Cragle, Harold Cornell, Dorothy Niezgoda, Ethel Ide, soon found their way into the school's sports. The coaches were proud of these Sopha. We made a name for ourselves in 1943. We were Juniors in '44, laughing, devilish monsters, who gave many a teacher gray hair. We were getting into the swing of things by then. The age-old fights between Seniors and Juniors lent the year flying feet, es- pecially when William Klansek and Bertha Dribelbis were put in the Senior Play. Our own play, under the direction of Miss Owens, took up our time during the last half of that year. nlhat Crazy Smith Family' was very appro- priate considering our own antics that year. Our only sorrow that year was in losing our favorite teacher, Mr. Crum. In '45, William Johnson took over as president, and our Senior year was started. From the smoke of the election, Harold Cornell, emerged with the title of vice-president, Dorothy Niezgoda as secretary, Frances Elencik as treasurer, and Irma Calkins as class historian. Our Senior Play, under the direction of Mr. Ikeler, occupied our thoughts from November until the 13th and l4th of December. 'SeventeenU added to the fun of being Seniors. After that, the Christmas Dance. On a cold morning in March, the hissing of air brakes told us that the bus had arrived. Why? To take us to Philadelphia, of course. We had a glorious time those three days stolen from school time. Harrisburg, Millersville, Middletown, Lancaster, none of them escaped our searching eye in those three days. Now, to all those things, we're saying 'good-byen, but in our memory they will live forever. ,f ssxlrea 22 MISS DELILAH KISTLER SENIOR OFFICERS Seated: Harold Cornell, Presidentg William John on, Presldentg Dorothy Nlezgoda, Secretary. When the Seniors of Lehman presented Booth Tarkington'sNSEVENTEENn, they came out on top with two night performances and an afternoon matinee. There were some mishaps which proved rather discourag- ing to Mr. Ikeler, our di- rector, and might have been fatal to the play. Nearly all the cast contracted the flu within the two weeks before the performance, but when the curtain rose on the first act, the cast was all on deck, The plot centered around a young man of seventeen, Willie Baxter. Heckled by a younger sister, ndesperatelyu in Hloven with a newcomer to town, restrained by an unsym- pathetic father, Willie fought his way through the trials and tribulations of a seventeen- year-old. Laughs and groans flowed his way from the aud- ience. NThat Crazy Smith Familyn breezed into town. The Smith Family was under the guidance of Mother and Father Smith and the eagle eye of Aunt Bella. The merry mixups and laughable love affairs encountered by the younger members of the family were comical to see. HS1ats'N crude method of love was ridiculed by Buddy and Betty who enjoyed making him and Aunt Bella as miserable as possible. Other romances consisted of Tony and Barbara, Stew and Julie, and Dick and Sally. All in all the play was full of springtime, bright light, and sappy-happy people. X 35 ,ffl V 56 :MVK UM - Ng.
