The wild and windy night that the rain washed away has left a pool of tears crying for the day, why leave me standing here, let me know the way. Many times I've been alone and many times I've cried, anyway you'll never know the many ways I've tried but still they lead me back to the long winding road, you left me standing here, along long time ago, don't leave me waiting here, lead me to your door. But still they lead me back to the long winding road, you left me standing here, a long long time ago, don't keep me waiting here, lead me to your door. It was, in fact, the best ever! Led by their talented coach, Lee Husker Sommers, the team started their work in June with a record setting 24 hour relay. All of this hard work resulted in a balanced attack of seniors and underclassmen. The Polar Bears won the Stark County title for the 4th time and added 4 other invitational titles. The J.V.'s caped many titles and backed up the varsity with an undefeated record. Lehman's harriers wound up sectional champs and district runner-ups. The team finished 3rd in the entire state in tough AA competition at Columbus. It was the best performance of any Lehman team ever! Middle Right—Polar Bear harriers warm up for the meet. In spite of a disappointing 11-14 record, Coach Manny Mandarine said that he likes the switch. Throughout the season, the Bears encountered tough competition. In fact, 8 of their losses came to the top finishers in tournament play. The Reserve golf team post- ed a promising 95-5 record. All in all. Coach Mandarine called the season a rewarding one and was especially pleased that everyone on the team played in at least one varsity match. He anticipates a bright future with the many re- turning underclassmen hopefully providing a winning season next year. 76 VARSITY GOLF TEAM: First Row—Head Coach Manny Mandarine, Tim Shivers, Phil Capri, Jim Gliatta, Rick Rosenstock. They encountered one of the toughest schedules Lehman has ever played and many of the games were not decided until the final buzzer. Coach Don Eddins, new assistant coach Jerry Hahn, and the team suffered many adversities throughout the season, but they still came through many times for the enthusiastic Lehman supporters. ... Branin Natatorium early last winter provided Lehman the opportunity to form a new swim team. Behind the helpful coach- ing of Joyce Ferguson, the Leh- man aquanauts plunged into their initial season eager to chal- lenge their city and district rivals. The Lehman swimmers gained support from their most valuable swimmer Dave Young, swimmer Tom Kirkpatrick, and divers Chuck Corregan, Micky McCauley, and Eugene Cindea for a record of 5-3. The first year for a club is always the most exciting, for every record is a new one. When the final meet has ended, the standards set are next years goals. The 1975 Polar Bears showed tremendous im- provement on the baseball diamond over last year's disappointing season. This year's baseballers racked up a 6-12 record. Senior Randy Brannan pitched his way to 4 of the 6 wins. Junior Dan Hlavaty and senior Jerry Wise eached gained one victory. Two the sea- son's outstanding players were Eugene DeChellis and Mark Lux. DeChellis led the team in hitting with a .333 average and Lux led the infielders with a high field- ing average. Above Left—Jerry anticipates the next throw. Above—Freshman slug- gers Don and Kent relax on the Bears' Bench. Second Row—Manager, Bruce Williamson, Marty Miller, John Duzan, Terry Myser, Rich Young, Marc Steenbarger, John Carlin, Coach, Dick Myser. The boys' tennis team started the sea- son on a high note by winning the Walsh Jesuit Invitational Tournament. Their countless hours of practice paid off as they battled to a 25 and 9 record against some very stiff competition. They capped the season by sending three boys to state. Freshman John Carlin earned a trip to Columbus playing singles while Terry Myser and Rich Young teamed up to earn a state doubles berth. The Varsity loses only Sr. Marc Steenbarger. Next year? WOW! Upper Left—Ken uses both hands for a solid hit. Above—District winners Terry, Ken, and John proudly display their trophies. Right—Keeping his eye on the ball, Terry anticipates his next shot. Far Right—Following through on his serve, Joe hopes for the best. Girls Finish Fantastic Season The girls' tennis team, coached by Sue Brown, had a fantastic first season posting a record of eleven wins and two losses. What makes the record even more impressive is the fact that they had only one senior, Jeanette Rownd, on the ten-girl squad. Nina Gordon finished a fine season for the girls by winning the district singles crown at Village Racket Club. Coach Brown should stay happy just thinking about next year. Left—Nina on the move in the girls' district tournament. Below—Tammy follows through on her backhand return. Bottom Right—Jo Ann gets low to hit her shot. First Row—Coach, Sue Brown. Second Row—Laura Heller, Mary Cadden, Mindy Long, Marge Machen, Joe Ann Trbovich, Jeanette Rownd, Geri Szymanski, Nina Gordon, Tammy Whitehouse, Donna Johnson. 93 Spikers Run To ... This year's edition of Leh- man's track team was one of the most outstanding in recent years. Led by a strong squad of seniors and supported by fine underclassmen, they compiled a 3-1 dual meet record and had many high finishes in invita- tional. The season was high- lighted when the thinclads put it all together to win the Dover Invitatinal by a wide margin. Many fine individual performan- ces were also turned in as nine school records were set and two new freshman marks established. Al McCallin, Dave Mosher, and Greg Page all qualified for state with Al and Dave finishing 2nd and 4th in the 2-mile and Greg taking 7th in the 880 yard run. First Row—Al McCallin, Dave Mosher, Bill Murphy, Vince Farrel, Kim George, Micky McCaully, Bob Lombardi, Bruce Dunn, Greg Page, Randy Cantrell. The girls com- peted in a variety of duel meets in the winter and finished with a 3-7 mark under Coach Joyce Ferguson. Four-year teammates Penny Johnson and Jane Rother- mel led the team. Gale Snyder provided Lehmanites with many thrills with her floor exercise routine as she placed 3rd in sectionals, 8th in districts, and 11th in state competition. And then the boys and girls com- bined their talents to put on an excellent gymnastic show to end the season. Below—Suzanne shows her poise on the beam. Tim Koontz left behind many friends whom as long as they live will never forget his smiling face. Tim's friend- ship was an inspiration to those who knew and loved him. As time goes by, our memories of Tim will never be relinquished. When death takes its young: We are voiceless in the presence of realities— We cannot speak. E. L.
