Lehman: One Run Short Of Class A Baseball Title 1 This was one hellava baIIgame! Dave Ross, WMVR Sports Director, labeled the championship game which saw Ottawa Hills, near Detroit, pluck victory from the Cavaliers in 11 innings by an 8 to 7 score. 1 The Cavs, behind the pitching of Tom Froning and Mike Ciriegio, built leads of 4-1 and 5-2 in the first seven inning! only to see Ottawa Hills tie the score to put the game into overtime. 1 1 Lehman then took a 7-5 lead in the top of the 11th inning, but Ottawa Hills took advantage of three Cavalier errors in the bottom of the eleventh to win the game 8-7. 1 The Cavs lost six of their seven games early in the season, but once they found the right combinations, they continued to win until that wet Saturday afternoon at Ohio State. The Cavs started tournament play by whipping top-seeded Anna 5-4. They drubbed Houston 21-1 and took Fort Loramie into extra innings to win on a Mike Ciriegio home run, 8-7. Lehman took the District championship by beating South Eastern, 11-3. They topped Middletown Finwick 11-4 and edged Twin Valley South 5-3 to earn the Regional crown. ln a rain delayed game, the Cavs came from behind to dump Franklin Furnace Green 9-7 in their first test in Columbus. 1 xr E: ,Y . ,haf-v 114 '
