RILSUME, By Daniel I Farren, Prznczpal Thrs the thrrtreth rssue of the lachtrn Bambzl brrngs back to memory many of the trrals and trrbulatrons the Joys and sorrovys rnyolved rn pub lrshrng the hrst rssue The Cachtzn Bambrl was the hrarn chrld of lV1r Bert 13 Davrd yyho at that trnre yy as rnstructor rn matherrratrcs and advrser to the urrror Llass W ell do 1 renrernber the class meetrng rn the early fall of 1919 when Mr Davrd suggested the puhlrshrng of a year book We as lunrors Qlass of 1971 enthusr astrcally recerved Mr Davrd s suggestron and yyent to vyork wrth all the zeal and fervor that rn arnbrtrous class could muster Qelectrng a staff hndrng a name for thc book get trng ads plannrng the format of the book gettrng rt to the prrnter all led to the hnal day vyhen rt yy rs rn our hands a trrurnph yes rndeed a trrurnph oyer obstacles that onlv a fevy months hcfore seemed almost urrsurnrountable bpace does not permrt elaboratrng on any of the detarls attendant to the publrshrng of the hrst book but there rs one thought that 1 should lrke to leave rn regard to the hrst rssue If you have been fortunate enough to see one you vyrll rrotrce rt rs rnscrrbed Gachtzn Bambzl 1970 It should hrye been rn scrrbed f afhtm Bambzl 1971 The Class of 1920 yy ho vyere berrrors at the trme were equally ambrtrous and felt that they should publrsh thrs book Mr Davrd s plan yy rs to have the unror Class do so for tyyo reasons 1 lunror classes rn college usually publrsh the year book 7 Should we be unable to hnance the book we would strll have our benror year to wrpe out any debts that we rn curred Thus yyas yyrse plannrng but rn order to ac conrplrsh our goal yye as lunrors gracrously permrtted the hook to c rrry the 1920 rnscrrptron as a trrbute to the Senrors There rs no larhzzn Bambzl bearrng our class numerals rnd the one follovyrng 1920 rs marked 1972 agarn as r result of our gracrousness We felt that the book should bear the numerals of the class that publrshed rt and there was no hesrtancy on our part rn puttrrrg thrs rnto effect Accordrngly thrs 1950 farhtm Bambrl rs the thrrtreth annrversary rssue Ir has been my good fortune to have arded rn the publrshrng of the hrst book to have been advrser to the Llass of 1937 as rt publrshed rts book and now rs prrncrpal ofl H S to he rn some small measure responsrble for thrs rssue More gratrfyrng rs the fact rh rt Robert Moyer the son of my classmate 1 rura Clauss Moy er rs the busmess manager of the book and my oyyn daughter Dorothv rs a member of the btaff 'Vlabel Harper Hrllrard another member ofour class who dred lV1ar 20 1949 was a teacherm the lehrghton schools She yyas rnterested rn the fachtzn Bambzl and could always be depended on to further the mterests of our schools 'Vlabel Laura and 1 lrttle drd we realrze that some day our feeble efforts would add up to all of thrs Vle are happy for truly thrs rs one of the grand moments of lrfe As for me well there wrll rlyy ays be a larhtzn Bambzl OL R T ASR By Walter W Harwell Eclztor zn Clue Ar a meetrng of the Staff held last sprrng rt vy rs decrded that the 1950 rssrre of the l achrrn Bambrl would be made an annrversary rssrre by comparrng the actrvrtres of 1919 1970 yyrth those of the present In order to do thrs statrstrcs had to be obtarned from each member of the Qlass of 1971 the group to be honored for publrshrng the hrst vear book at Lehrghton 1-lrgh Schoool Thrs part of the task yy as completed rn a very short trme desprte the fact that many of the alumnr do not lrve nearby All the prctures of that trme whrch are shown rn thrs hook were taken from the 1920 C achtzn Bambzl In addrtron to all the effort put rnto the Joh of edrtrng the book there was also rrruch yyork con nected wrth the frnancrng of rt One of the mam sources of rncome was the sellrng of advertrsements whrch was taken care of by our adyertrsrng manager and hrs assrstants Proceeds of nrovres shovyrr fre qrrentlv durrrrg the school term arded greatly rn pay mg for the cost of prrntrng engravrng photographs etc Much rncome vyas also obtarned through the sellrng of refreshrrrerrts at athletrc contests and through the sellrng of Qhrrstmas cards The produc tron of the unror Llass Plav Brrdes to Burn also yy as an excellent hnancral ard The success of thrs book rs due marnly to our advrser Mr lzdward G Drehl the lack of whose untrrrng efforts would have caused the 1950 Gachtzn Bambzl to have become just another day dream Mr Drehl rs a graduate of L 1-1 S wrth the Class of 1979 and srnce hrs own hrgh school days has shown enthusrastrc rnterest rn hrs Alma Mater and her student body Our t :sk rndeed has been a great one but we the Class of 1950 are proud to have upheld thrs worth yy hrle tradrtron started by the Class of 1921 W '1 . . . .
