They felt themselves fully equipped and so they launched the Ship with a good organization under faculty guidance. The first or Fresh- man league was sailed somewhat timorously but nevertheless quite success- fully as -proven by our accomplishments. XYe won second prize in thc annual Hallowe'en Parade. We also won the victor's crown in the Sopho- more-Freshman football game. During our Sophomore year we continued to sail ever forward. XVe again won the Soph-Frosh football game and gave several men to the Var- sity squad. Basketball, baseball, and track came in their order and we did Well in all these sports. Socially we entered the Halloween Parade and enjoyed a Halloween Party. Everyone attended these functions and went away pleased. We returned to T.. H. S. our Junior year as pirates and in that capacity put out our piratic Year Book, Gachtin Bambil, successfully. The splendid rendition of three one-act plays was made possible by the co-operation of the whole class. In all the athletic sports we were represented by boys who put their whole heart into the game and came out successful if not always victorious. Our Junior year was well spent and the class earned the com- mendation, Well done. We started on the last league of our journey as Seniors, with 103 mem- bers. VVe tried hard to live up to and surpass the standards set by the other classes. Qur class furnished nine of the men on the Varsity football team. five on the basketball team and we were well represented on the other teams. The whole crew fell to and made the class play, To the Ladies , a huge success. All other class projects were ended successfully and the crew made ready for the Commencement Exercises. After these pleasant but saddening services were over the class was broken up and each member went out to seek a goal and thereby be worthy of his Alma Mater. The class is and ever will be grateful to our esteemed faculty who always extended a helping hand in time of need to remove obstacles and make our voyage pleasant and successful. Class Motto- ln Ourselves Our Future Lies. ..1 JUNIGR CLASS HISTORY In the fall of 1928, on September 6, the plane Class of 32 started off on an uncertain flight with an endurance record in view. The first thing done by the infant class was the calling of a class meeting whcreat the offi- cers were elected and committees organized which were to select the class colors and flower and direct the class in the I-lallowe'en Parade, where we took first prize in the Junior High division. At about this time the annual Freshman-Sophomore football struggle took place. The Class of 32N rocked dizzily and finally lost the hard fought battle. Next came the bas- ketball season to absorb our active interest. The girls were the victors in the Freshman-Sophomore tilt while the boys lost gamely. Section 9-1 organized the Hot Lunch Corporation under the able supervision of Miss VVettlin in connection with Civics Class. The Thursday hot lunches dis-- appeared with amazing rapidity and the enterprise, as well as being educa- tional, proved to be highly successful. On September 3, l929 the Class of 32 received its first refueling of knowledge from the refueling ship Faculty NVhizzdom',. The engine purr- ed along smoothly, partly due to the fact that the number of passengers had been decreased from l-16 members to the 97 who were left to carry on. Halloween again made its appearance and the Class of 32M zoomed away Page -forty i with second prize received for our splendid showing in the parade. ln the Freshman-Sophomore football gamble our boys received the long end of the 7 to 6 score. Basketball season opened, and after a series of close contests the boys stood second and the girls occupied third place. VVQ, the i'Class of 32 finally completed our Sophomore year looking forward to the next term when we would be juniors and publishers of the 32 Gachtin Bambil. Refueled by the education from the good ship Faculty VYhizzdom the Class of 32 at last began one of the most important stages of its journey. On September 3, l93O, with an enrollment of 84 we entered upon the third year of our High School career. From the many members of the class that turned out for the Year Book Club the staff was chosen, which immediately began work on the H32 Annual . Our boys made a good showing in the lnter-Class football games, taking second place. Again, we found basket- ball season upon us. The girls made a splendid record, emerging as the champion Inter-Class girls' basketball sextet. The boys' quintet made an ex- cellent record in the same sport. During Christmas vacation the juniors enjoyed a trip to Glen Onoko. Miss Sherer made possible and planned this never to be forgotten holiday. Due to the success of Glen Gnoka outing, plans for a visit to the Bake Oven were made and carried out. Un March 27 we presented the Class play, At the Sign of the Pewter jug , which proved to be another bright spot in our history. VVe earnestly hope that in the last stage of our happy flight the passengers will carry with them this thought, ln ourselves our future lies. -L. E. B. Since the beginning of time, man has been doing all in his power to find Il means of conveying thought faster than his skirted opponents, but up to this time he has been unsuccessful, The junior lioys are now trying to do that where in lVlarconi and Edison have failed. Under the able guid- ance of Mr. Obert they have organived a Sewing Circle which has already grown much in size. The qualifications for membership in this club are few but require some preparation. To be admitted as a member one must be at least sixteen years of age, must be a junior boy, and must have the sense of speech. Not only that, but he must be well read on the ancestry of the present members, as well as his own. He must be able to describe an accident in detail which he did not see. He must be able to tall: continually about anybody at the rate of four hundred words per minute for a duration of a half hour, unless by some misfortune he is interrupted by a stray mouse. And lastly, he must be able to thread a needle in a period of three minutes. Since this matter affects the future of the world, the Junior Boys ask the moral support of the entire male student body. Some members of our class have been separated from us and some have been added to the group. NVe were determined that we would work as hard, and maybe just a little bit harder, than we had worked the pre- vious year, to be one of the leading during the year. Our class participated in the annual Hallowe'en Parade but we were not quite as fortunate as we were last year due to the fact that the Freshmen won first prize. Finally the day of the great football classic came-the Freshman-Sophomore game. But woe unto the Freshrnennl Regardless of the determination of the fighting Freshman team, the .Sophomores marched valiantly up and clown the gridiron to win a 46-7 victory. -R. Our first class meeting was called on October 31, at which time we elected our president. XYe also had the pleasure of hearing two lectures, given by the Presidents of the junior and Senior classes. At our second meeting the remaining officers were elected. Our first social function of the year was the Halloween Parade. VVQ made a splendid showing and easily won our desired prize. -H. A. Prospects at the beginning of the year were not very bright, but they in- creased as the date set for the opening game on the schedule gradually drew nearer. The Maroon and VVhite eleven was one of the two undefeated teams in the Lehigh Yalley League. However, because the Maroon eleven had two ties on their record while the Catasauqua team had only one, the Iron Boro team was awarded the trophy of league supremacy. Lehighton High opened their season before one of the largest crowds to witness a local football game. The crowd was well repaid when they saw a smooth running Maroon eleven triumph over Northampton High by a Z0-7 score. The two following games resulted in 6-6 ties with Catasauqua and Stroudsburg respectively. The next two games resulted in overwhelming 46-0 and 25-0 wins over Wlhitchall and Emaus. The following game was played with our rivalsn, lnterchunk, and re- sulted in a 33-0 win for the Cinder-Seltzer crew. liefore the largest following that ever accompanied a Lehighton Ath- letic team, the Maroon eleven traveled to Nesquehoning the following Sat- urday to receive a 32-0 setback for their one and only defeat of the season. The turkey day classic with the Alumni resulted in a 19-0 win for the undergraduates. Nine of the first eleven will be lost by graduation for the 1932 team, but the available material in reserve shows promise for another well devel- oped gridiron machine. Coaches, Mr. Ginder and Mr. Seltzer, deserve all the praise coming to the coaches of a championship eleven. FOOTBALL SCHEDULE DATE PLACE OPP. PP. A play-off game for the championship was not deemed advisable this year, and as a result no champions were crowned.
