The bulletin board near Xmas-Saucon always has a myriad of notices to attract the interest of anyone. Perhaps this metallurgy student will develop a new metal in his experiments in Coxe Lab. During Freshman Week, the frosh have complete con- trol of the campus. The University Center was a favorite spot for them to relax and reflect on their day. 17

The probable effect of the new program will be to eliminate the fresh- man and sophomore dead wood who show no interest in the training program. Another major change in the University ' s cur- riculum was registered when it was announced that the Mining Department would be closed and the mining engineering major dropped in the near future. This decision was concurrent with a na- tional trend away from this field on the part of both students and industry. Old Coxe Lab has long stood as sowewhat of an enigma on campus. Few seemed to know what was going on there, and it was seldom that anyone was seen entering or leaving the building. Actually, in recent years there have been very few students enrolled in mining engineering. Over the past decade, var- ious myths about Coxe Lab have come into being.
