Formally changed from Girl Reserves into a Kayette organization in 1950, the girls have again engaged in many worthwhile projects and activities. On the right the president and secretary are shown with the 1000-point award given to them by the state office. During the past year some of the projects undertaken were a chili supper, a stunt program, baby sitting at PTA, World Day of Prayer participation, an all-school party, joint pro- grams with the rii-Y at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. The club sent representatives to the State Conference at Caldwell and also to the District Conference at Marquette. All the girls in the club made the trip to Marquette as shown in the photo on the left. Here they found that a former Lehigh club member, Miss Doris Unruh, was host sponsor. They participated in discussion groups and enjoyed meeting with other girls at the conferences. THE HI-Y CABINET The Hi-Y is a boys organi ization and has as its goal: ,fTo create, maintain, and ex tend throughout the school and community high standards of Christian character.” Seated: Mr. Goering, Jim,Howard, The Hi-Y also engages in various projects and Arvid, and Mr. Dyck. Standing: Verlan, Loren, and Bruce. programs throughout the year. Together with the Kayettes they sponsored the Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter assembly programs. The club sponsored the book exchange, selling of T-shirts left over from last year. They held a Father and Son night in the gym and served refreshments. They went swimming in the McPherson YMCA. After winning third place the Eagle orators qualified for the state tournament. At the state they performed creditably by tying with Ford in number of wins for second place. Having the advantage on speaker points Ford took home the second-place trophy. Other tournaments attended included: Topeka, Newton, Salina, Derby, and Haven. Debaters over whom the Eagles gained victories came from Ellinwood, St. John, Pratt, Ulysses, Hoisington, Burrton, West Mineral, Coffeyville, Garden City, Wra. Christman of Missouri, Olathe, Wellington, Stafford, Whitewater, Eldorado, Meade, Lakin, College High of Pittsburg, and Buhler. Jeanette and Jim were fourth-year debaters. Eleanor and Joan debated their second year, and Laurel and Loren showed much promise in their first year of competition. Debate The debaters of '54- '55 tied for third in state and with the aid of Pat and Vera won a beautiful second place trophy. Here the team is leaving the Hotel Stamey in Hutchinson as the state tourney comes to an end.
