As Seasons Porter Baker is a prominent citizen in our community. He was born to Charles and Ida Mae Baker on a farm outside of Leeton in 1899. He attended Leeton Elemen- tary, and graduated from the Eighth grade in 1915. He was a member of the first Bulldog bas- ketball team. The game that was played then was somewhat differ- ent than the game we play now. Theirs was played on an outdoor, cinder court. Mr. Baker remarked, Hlt got kinda' chilly when a light snow fell.H He also told us that the first game they play- ed on an indoor court was when they played a game at Warrensburg at the college gymnasium. They because they were playing on a slick sports they had at Scrub, which is baseball, and lost the game not used to floor. Other Leeton were: old-fashioned Hcountryn football. A past-time of the boys was to kick the ball on top of the building so that they could go through the attic to get it. ! I m P2133 From Leeton he went on to Warrensburg to high school, CLee- ton had no high school at the timel. He attended there two years. After finishing high school, he went to Business School at where he took a six-month course. From there he went to the Univer- sity of Missouri, and took classes there for six months. Chillicothe, Missouri, Mr. Baker is probably best- known for being the President of Leeton Bank. He started work there in 1917, where he was sup- posed to work for six months. He's been a stockholder in the Bank since 1920. But it's not or the fact that ident of the town him special to us.
