••l 14 SENIORS The senior class once again had a tremendous year. The following is a summary of the awards the seniors received. Lee Walters was selected to attend National Science and Humanities Symposium. Out of 18 students in Louisiana selected to present papers at the Louisiana Science and Humanities Symposium, three were seniors from LHS — Cindy Ashy, Jonathan Snowden, and Lee Walters. Luke Hadnot was one of ten semi-finalists in Loui- siana in Century III Leadership competition and he also was District Winner in the Optimist Essay Contest. The National Merit Semi-Finalists from LHS were Paul Bonfan- ti, Ron Clark, Cathy Smith and Jonathan Snowden. Paul, Ron, and Jonathan advanced to the finals. Ron Clark and Lee Walters received appointments to the U.S. Military Academy. Those receiving Air Force ROTC Four-Year Scholarships were Maria Boado, Paul Bonfanti, Luke Had- not, John Pereda, and Jonathan Snowden. Becky Mayeaux was named Miss Holiday Belle and Miss Vernon Parish. Carol Taylor won the Miss Junior Civitan of Loui- siana. Finally, Dexter Gatewood was named All-State in Football and Missy Brroks was placed on the cheerleading squad for All-State Football.

EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION 1982-83 LHS Program of Studies and the cleanliness of the girl's bathrooms. The evaluations were complete, thorough and detailed. They validated what the students and faculty of Leesville High School had long known — we are The Best AAA School in Louisiana.” The ceremonies recognizing our school as one of the best in our nation took place in Washington, D.C. and in Leesville. Louisiana. On September 28, 1983. Mr. Barney Wilson and Mr. Jim Kitts, in behalf of our students and faculty, accepted from Secretary Bell on the South Lawn of the White House a banner which reads Excellence in Education, 1982-83. At homecoming, November 4, 1983, Mr. Richard Reese, principal, commenced the following presentations: Mrs. Monica Harrison, representing the United States Department of Education, presented a plaque to Student Council President Ronald Seastrunk which reads U.S. Department of Education Secondary School Recognition Program recognizes LEESVILLE HIGH SCHOOL, Leesville. Louisiana for Outstanding Progress Toward EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION. 1982-83. T. H. Bell. Secretary of Education. Also present was Mr. Willis Farris, representing the school board, who commended the school for its outstanding commendations.
