R I R N U C S I 5 P E A L L L It is difficult for me to believe that I hove begun my second decade of Leesville High School, to realize that over one-half of our present students had not yet starred their school ex- perience when I come to LHS. Further, I marvel or the progress we hove mode in the ten short years which preceded this one. Today, the many visitors we have on campus moke specific note of our pride, spirit and friendliness. Parents of new students ore aware on their arrival of our reputation for excellence in ocodemics, athletics, and in oil of our co- and extra-curricular ac- tivities. We ore respected throughout the State of Louisiana and we have been recognized nationally. We ore, indeed, The Best AAA School in Louisiana. Our accomplishments ore unique. And these ac- complishments could not hove been realized without the unique relationship that exists between the finest student body in the world and the best faculty ever assembled at one school. Truly, we ore o team, working together toward com- mon goals and objectives. It is my hope that this 1983 Leesville High School Yearbook will be the repository of many fond memories for each of you in the years to come. I certainly will remember and cherish each of you because I hove faith in you, faith in whot you ore, and faith in whot you will be. God bless you. HLR 14 COL. JAMES KITTS MR. The Parish Superintendent wos to select one school which wos the best in the parish. Then the Superintendent of Schools of each state would select three schools from oil of the nominations. A repre- sentative of Notional was to write o recommendation on each of the three schools chosen from the store and give it to the Notional judges who would then select one of three to be in the top fifty of the United States. Superintendent John Burns recommended LHS for this honor and then Superintendent of Schools of Loui- siana, Kelly Nix, (pictured with Dr. Russell) selected LHS to be in the top three. We were chosen because of our many programs, extra curriculum activities, ond the percent of graduates receiving scholarships.
