LHS Principal The poet Robert Burns wrote, 0 wad some Pow'r the giftie gie us. To see oursels as ithers see us!” During this past school year, many have seen us. One, Dr. John Anthony Scott; author, lecturer of the Graduate School of Law of Rutgers University, and National Humanities Faculty member, commented about LHS in a national publication, I left a visit there with a sense of peace.” What brings peace? Dignity, selflessness, hon- est friendship and justifiable, yet unobtrusive oride. brina Deace. These are not aoals or chal- pride, bring peace. These are not goals or chal- lenges. They are a pace or tone set by persons or groups. If others, visitors from California to New Jersey, saw in us attributes which could give them “peace” then the credit, in large measure must go to the Class of 1980. If we truly “Dared to Excel,” if we are an example for other schools to emulate, if we are the best AAA School in Louisiana — look to the Seniors of ’80. They make us so. Best wishes and God bless each of you. HLR

Superintendent — C. Creighton Owen Superintendent’s Message It is with great pleasure that I commend the year- book staff for their efforts in producing this excel- lent record of the past school year. Theirs has been a unique task: that of viewing objectively the school’s activities while at the same time participat- ing in them. These young people and their faculty advisers have combined creative ability and a great degree of dedication in accomplishing the goals they set months ago. For their special efforts we are grate- ful, because in years to come the 1979-80 year- book will only increase in its value to us. Like the yearbook staff, our faculty, staff and stu- dents throughout the parish have worked diligently to achieve their goals also. Significant progress is evident in our school system as we review past months, and I am pleased that we have met our challenges well. Our nation’s homes and schools are greatly responsible for America’s position of world leader- ship. As we enter a new decade, the 1980's, let us take stock of our country’s goals and prepare our- selves for even higher levels of proficiency and pro- ductivity. I wish for each of you much success. Sincerely, C. Creighton Owen Superintendent A. C. Dowden School Board Members C. A. Hughes t. A. Hoffpauir 13
