WAMPUS CAT 1969 Leesville High School Leesville, Louisiana Theme: Calendar of Events Published by Taylor Publishing Co. De dic Through the years you have been vitally interested in educa- tion and have provided leadership and encouragement as a teacher, a coach, and a principal. As superintendent, you have worked diligently and tirelessly to bring the Vernon Parish Schools from the bottom of this list in the state to a position where we take a back seat to no one. You have been the recipient of many honors for responsi- bilities undertaken in the educational systems on the parish, state and national levels. You have, also, given praise and recog- nition to others for work well done, medals and trophies won, and accomplishments achieved for better education. You have worked to make Leesville High School one of the best in the state by your participation in our assemblies and activities, your interest in our welfare, and your desire to enrich our curriculum and improve our facilities. FOr your leadership, concern, and encouragement, we are very grateful. To you, Mr. Bradshaw, the man responsible for the efficient operation of the educational system of Vernon Parish, we, the yearbook staff, proudly dedicate this 1969 edition of the WAMPUS CAT. -ONTENTs Principal’s Message The 1968-69 school year has been a memorable experience for all of us at Leesville High School. The annual staff has chosen a most appropriate theme, Calendar of Events, to record those outstanding events on our calendar that have happened this year at Leesville High School. As for myself, I will warmly remember many events of the year, 1968-69, that are not recorded here or that were not even on our school calendar. Foremost, 1 shall remember the type student body we had at Leesville High School. This student body was as fine a group of young men and women as with whom one could be associated. So strong is my impression of the Leesville High School student body that I find it difficult to believe the news media reports as representative of our young people in our country today. 1 faithfully believe the destiny of our country will be passed into the hands of a most competent generation - a generation that is willing and eager to accept the responsibilities of adulthood. In closing, I would like to thank all of you for helping to make the school year both enjoyable and successful. The annual staff is to be especially congratulated for making possible this truly lasting memory of the 1968-69 school year. I only hope that is just the beginning of success and happiness for us all. 5 Very Important People MRS. RACHEL MOSS Secretary MRS. JUANITA HINES and MRS. DONNA PYNES Teachers' Aids 2nd Semester MRS. It represents a recorded period in your life that will be cherished more and more in the years to come. May these school endeavors be only the beginning for some higher goal in life. Ward One School Board Members MR. T. L. BERRY MR. R. D. SHAEFFER II Involvement and participation of the whole student body has been the aim of the 1968-69 Student Council.l The group has tried many ideas in order to accomplish this. Its success cannot, however, be measured in numbers! and percentages, but rather in the students’ attitude toward school. One could say that it has been successful from a glance back over the year. School spirit, scholarship, and sports- [ manship have been plenteous; troublemakers, academic failures, and poor sports have been few. You, the students of 1HS, have made this year a good one. I know I speak for the whole student council when I say, Thanks for a great experience. We hope it has I meant as much to you as it has to us. Sports, clubs. dances, and other activ- ities have all had their red letter days at Leesville High School. Many worthwhile achievements have come from these and other events. Throughout these pages we have tried to recall those important dates and the precious memories that accompany them. I would like to thank the staff for all the help they have given me and especially you, the students, for making this year a memorable one. The three girls who attended Pelican State representing LHS did all of these things and even more. Here they learned of Louisiana government. Rinkie and Sally were elected to the House of Representatives and Diane was elected to the office of Clerk of Court. When divided up into political parties, Rinkie and Diane were Nationalists and Sally was a Federalist. Rinkie was elected Party Leader for the Nationalists, who led cheers, songs and formal business. Sally was nominated and later elected Custodian of Voting Machines. That one week at LSU in Baton Rouge was the most exciting and hardest week any of these three girls ever had, but they'll all agree that it was also one of the most enjoyable and memorable! 64 forestry festival and Rodeo Activities Queen J ua Hernandez forst Runner-lip jCiuda Causey Second Runner-Up tfudy Pass Judy Porter works very hard to bring home many honors.
