Last year it was you, the student body, who helped make this edition of the WAMPUS CAT what it is. Each year we, the yearbook staff, try to capture the memories of the entire year, whether they be happy or sad. The year 1964-65 was one none of us shall ever forget. It was great in all aspects of school life and I hope you will re-live its greatness as you glance through the pages of this book. We hope that you will enjoy the 1965 WAMPUS CAT as much as we have enjoyed publishing it. PRINCIPAL JOE PARKER Life is change. The truth of this statement will grip your mind many times as you examine these pages of Leesville High School 1964-1965. As you lift your face in reflection from these pictures, and records, and words, you will marvel at how superbly this truism relates to your school. In the passing of four or five years the student body you know will have threaded its way into the post high school period. Some will have gone the route of com- mencement, others, the routes of love, of death, early livelihood, or fatigue. Teach- ers and staff members will have been urged along life’s ways to retirement, other employment, or named to the rolls of the Great Employer. Buildings will have been remodeled, enlarged, or replaced. The grounds themselves will reflect the impact of new structures and landscaping. The program of studies will embrace new courses. You, who are remembering, will have changed also. Rummage through this an- nual once again for you were a part of L.H.S. in 1965. A segment of your life is entwined herein. Know-again. This publication summarizes the activities of the school and presents pertinent information which reflects the continued growth of your school. You are to be warmly complimented on making it possible for the people in your community to take a look at the many educational activities sponsored during the 1964-1965 school year. The cats move along towards their goal with a 33-6 win over the Ferriday Bulldogs. Tioga — October 6 106 Leesville Tioga With the coming of our Homecom- ing game the Cats set their sights for another district win, this time over the Tioga Indians. In keeping with their high spirits and even higher goal the Cats bring down the Indians in a 41-12 win for Lees- ville. 7 14 13 7 41 0 6 6 0 12 Jena — October 23 Leesville 14 0 27 7 6 Jena 0 0 0 0 0 Possibly the best game of the sea- son was played between the Wam- pus Cats and the Jena Giants when the Cats brought back their third straight district success with a 27-0 win over the Giants. Menard — October 30 0 0 6 0 6 0 12 6 13 31 The Cats luck took a turn for the worst when the Menard Eagles came down for the decisive game for the district champs. Up until that game both teams had been unde- feated. The Cats fought hard until the last minutes of play but the Eagles had the advantage and took the Title home with a 31-6 victory. 107 Natchitoches — November 13 7 6 7 0 20 Leesville 6 7 0 7 20 Natchitoches Undoubtedly the most exciting game of the season was played the night of November 13. in the Wam- pus Cat Station. Probably the most important game of the season for both teams because the outcome would decide second in district and the team to go on in state compe- tition. A hard game was played on both sides and only through first downs was Leesville able to swing the victory over for another win. DeRidder — November 20 108 Leesville 0 0 0 13 13 DeRidder 13 14 6 7 40 The Leesville Wampus Cats met the DeRidder Dragons on the Dragon's field and faced probably the worst defeat of the season. For reasons which only our boys know, some- how the cats were not able to out- play the Dragons and due to this loss gave up the Hooper Trophy. All we can say about this game is We'll beat them good next year.
