This is due to wide student participation in school government. Through elected repre- sentatives from the home rooms everyone is involved. Every individual in the student body has an opportunity to contribute his ideas and talents in the interest of the council. We hope that you. the students, will con- tinue to cooperate in this organization. Page 11 ANNUAL STAFF Claude Leach, Jr. Editor B. A. In each issue an attempt is made to place before the students a panorama of that particular year, so that they may in later years refresh their memories of high school days. This has been another good year, with many outstanding accomplishments to add to the splendid record and rich traditions of our high school. The senior members of the staff sadly say “Farewell . Our interest and love will follow our Alma Mater throughout the years ahead. We, the stafl, have had as our purpose the creating of a year book which is truly representative of students and activities at Leesville High School. If you consider the 1951 Wampus Cat a true facsimile of student life during the past year, we will be justly rewarded for our efforts. (If football players run in your family, this is no reflection on your family background). However, for practical purposes, we will dispense with the history and give to you a few of the highlights of football at Leesville High School during the past season. If you were to have appeared on the athletic field of our high school any time between three and six o’clock Monday through Thursday during the first three months of school, you would have seen a group of some twenty-five or thirty boys working to make football at Leesville High School something to be really proud of. Twenty or thirty minutes of calisthenics and warm-up passing drills, thirty or forty minutes of, as the expression goes, “racking ‘Old Maud’,” the blocking machine, anti about an hour’s scrimmage and wind sprints to improve our condition and ability to run. This was a typical day’s workout. Our boys worked hard in practice and played hard in the games. They also derived a lot of pleasure from playing ball and from associating with each other. The laughs that stemmed from the actions and comments that took place on the field and off, were compensation enough for the actual labor they did, outside of all the other fun they had together. The association with their coaches was indeed a rich experience too. In short, football did have a success- ful year at Leesville High School, even though more games were lost than were won. Success means more than just winning games. It means satisfaction and cooperation between the boys and the coaches, the building of character and sportsmanship, and support from the students and townspeople. All these things were accomplished, and they all make for a bigger and better football system at Leesville High which we will continue to build and to improve.
