Leesville High School Leesvillc High Gymnasium FOREWORD The Wampus Cat—a stirring account of things done a year ago—things done to be fondly remembered. Herein is the story of a year lived and loved, revered and cherished. PAUL JAMES MERRILL This Annual is respectfully and lovingly dedicated by the Leesville High School Annual Staff to the Reverend Paul Jones Merrill, deceased minister of Leesville. Born in Mississippi February 1, 1887 and left an orphan in his youth. Joined the United States Band to study music and to travel. Studied for the Ministry at Johnson Bible College and Texas Christian University. In 1915 was ordained to the Ministry in The Christian Church in Fort Worth, Texas. Was married in September of the same year. For thirty-five years he was engaged in religious work. Came to Leesville in October 1945 as Pastor of the First Christian Church and occupied this posi- tion until his death. During his residence in Leesville, he was Band Director of the Leesville High School for the year 1945-1946. He was active in Red Cross Work and was given the Badge of Honor for his faithful service by the Southern Division of the American Red Cross. His chief interest or hobby was youth. Brother Mer- rill passed to his reward in Leesville on July 31, 1949. Donny Cohen Photographer Freddie Anderson Sports Editor Helen Cooley Co-editor Joy Ann Scogin Bus.
