President Secretary CLASS HISTORY Way way back in the ancient year of i934 a strange group of little figures crept timidly beside their mothers to the doors of learning. Who were they? ' Where were they going? Let's take a look! These figures were the first members of the noble class'-of '-46. There they were, shaking in their boots, all except Martha Burdine who stood with her intelligence popping out already, and Priss' Buck Jones Newell engaged in kicking some little boys football all over the yard. Billy Kilgore started out to be the Cassanova of our class but relinquished the title in the fourth arade to Dick Milham, who first appeared with his red hair and northern charm. ln the fifth grade, Judy James electrified the entire class by sporting a permanent wave. This started a beautifying craze, and soon all our little girls who were not blessed by Mother Nature with curly locks felt it necessary to patronize Ye Olde Beauty Salon. The fall of the following year brought with it our term as the big shots of the Elementary School and anxious hopes of holding those precious white diplomas in shaking hands. A reward well earned t?l. At last the fatal day had arrived, and on a bright Sept. Morning in l94O our class banged for admission at the doors of Leesburg High School. Would we make the next six years? Oh, yes indeed, we were quite confident, if it didn't require too much study. During our soiurn in the seventh grade we specialized in making ourselves heard above all others, but with the Corning of our 8th year in the quest for knowledge we lay aside childish ways, collected Jim DeVaney, and seriously began to study-dates! Freshmen! with Annette Alderman as our guide we ploughed through our-first real taste of high school life. Charles Sellar acquired a reputation as a scholar of Latin and at the some time Doris Luster became noted for her wit. 1 Priscilla Newell or Secreta ry Treasurer SENIORS EUTHA ALBERTSON Where's the horse, Stinkie? CLASS HISTORY-fContinuedJ Our tenth year began with a bang and brought with it Pat Morris and all boys as class officers. We had now become well enough accustomed to the ways of high school-to cease all pretense of study and just live for Friday nights. Soi set the pace by going steady, and most of our other little lads and lassies weren't far behind. ' As Juniors, our class out-did all previous traditions by having the longest, hardest fight of all Jr.- Sr. Play Book Battles. However, after all was peaceably settled and the cast and managers had either peroxided or rinsed all traces of grey from their heads, we produced the most outstanding play ever presented in Leesburg, or the State of Florida if one believed what we said about it. Just before that last week in May we all had the iitters, and well we might. After all, as Freda Chain can tell you, pushing mothballs all Over the Alma Mater is no ioke, but we all managed to sur- vive a hilarious initiation to become- - Seniorsl! oh happy, happy day! now we could actually do what we'd tried for so long, Rule L. H. S. Jim DeVaney took control as Pres. of the Student Body and Clyde Gentry as Chieftain of the class. Under their capable leadership we began our last dig for freedom papers. With a Super Special Skip away and colossal Sr. Play behind us, a smattering of A's scattered among the F's and only a few days left to go, lets say goodbye to that little but never to be forgotten Class of '46 who leave dear old L. l-l. S. to conquer new worlds. V CLASS PROPHECY As we gaze into the crystal ball of 1956, we see the members of the class of 1946. Olive Merritt Tripp and Wilbur are raising watermelons with the help of their five little stumbles. Who do you suppose is president of our country during this year 1956? None other than Leesburg's own Bill Kilgore. Joe Lee is still heartbroken because his favorite teacher, Miss Slone, quit her blooming career in 1945. She found she couldn't mix a career with being Mrs. Mike. They're still looking for Ed Taylor who got lost in the hammock a few years ago. Bet he was good gator bait. C. D. Drawdy bought out Doc. Bragdon and has renamed the Crescent, Pluto's Drug Co. Patsy Herndon took a little too much of the wonder tonic, and now the former Miss Buckles, who weighs 195 pounds, is trying to reduce for the sake of her little husband Julian Herndon, better known in his younger days as Sonny. Patsy Morris is making monthly visits to the hospital for a rash caused by constant use of pan cake make up, Norma James has an advertising firm in Daytona and at the close of each day is seen at the beach- in hog heaven, We find Tim Hall all Ve xcited over her coming marriage to John Hart. Soon after the wedding they will make a tour as the most athletic couple in the U. S. Brady Brown is now living on Mars. We always said he was simply out of this world. Richard Driggers, a distinguished Admiral in the Navy, is faithful, though far away, to his little wifc-, Lill Hall Driggers. Martha Burdine is Conduc- tress of the Philharmonic orchestra. John Atz and Dot Gerakios are making a tour of Europe, giving educational lectures. lf you remember, they were Mr. and Mrs. Einstien of L. H. S. Freda Chain is business manager of the New York Daily Times with husband Freddy Stivender chief news photographer onthe staff. J. D. Dean is strong man of the Barnum and Bailey Circus, with graceful Lillian Boyd as bare back rider. She is patiently hopeful about getting and keeping a man. Know what we think? Her deep interest scares them all away. David Toothaker who married Jeanne Geiger bought the Palace and wife Jeanne, relieved Mrs. Monroe at selling tickets. Doris Luster finally hooked Jimmy DeVaney and they have taken George Burns and Gracie Allen's place as the top comedians. Priscilla Newell and Betty Pringle who jointly own an art and gift shop live together in the first glass house built in Leesburg. Gladys Maxwell is Principal of the Elementary school and, as her own boss, goes to the show every after- noon. Mamie Joyce Green is head of the Billing Department of the Florida Telephone Corporation. We find Clifford Trumn living in Arabia. He couldn't make out with one wife. You know Clif-the old sheik--fcouldn't be satisfied with anything less than a harem. Frank Littleton has finally gathered the courage to pop the question tothe one he admired a ll during his senior year and Anita Woodson, having largely accepted, will soon become a blushing bride. Paul Norman is a star hurdler. You know he always was bubbling over with energy and had to pick a career that would use a little of the surplus. Clara Wintersdorf is now Leesburg's outstanding female lawyer, with Margaret Mathews as a most ef- ficient secretary. Marguerite Allred is still an old maid. This is due to a misunderstanding on the part of her sailor and R. F. We find Mary Alice Pantley having been married and divorced three times. She always was one who couldn't resist the stronger sex. Eutha Albertson, after being turned down once ci year for the past ten, has finally compromised for Charlie, who ended up in the same boat. Norma Conant, who always had perfect posture, is a model for John Powers, and also in New York as a very promising dress designer is Wyztell Collins. Doris Harnage is a master mechanic. She always knew sa much about motors and she's so big and strong. Robert Millikin is our town's best electrician. He specializes in television, Eurshel Spires, who married during the Christmas of '45, is teaching short- hand. He has just lost his assistant Pauline Sulen to a much better position in Miami. She was never able to prove her love for Eugene Farmer. Clarice Fletcher is now a psychiatrist with Fred Moore as her worst patient, who is a nervous wreck due to Scgueaky's constant nagging and fussing. Bobby Kirkland is Lake County's expert frog hunter and makes about S30 a day on frog legs. Margaret A. Haines is now Glee Club Director. She decided on this profession back in 1946 when she was student dir- ector. Martha Lou Bennett is the latest featured singer with Spike Jones' orchestra, with Betty Jean Rountree as the famous pianist. Barbara Shore, after having paid no attention to boys in her school Clays is now head over heels in love with Jack Wink, who as usual is unconcerned, Calvin Miller is in Ger- many in the Army of Occupation. He writes, I think they forgot about me. l'm going on my 9th year of overseas duty and l'm still herein Cary McGruder still blushes every time a girl looks his way. Clyde Gentry is now football coach for Notre Dame and his georgeous wife who was formerly Martha Reeves is actually faithful to him. The vision in our crystal bali slowly fades into Nothingness, and we find ourselves back again in 1946, a sadder but wiser class. We step forward into the unknown future with courage and deter- mination to make of it the best that is possible. LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT VVe, the Senior Class of l946, being of unsound mincl, unforgettable experience, and undying grati- tude, do hereby venture forth into the unsuspecting world, with this, our last will and testament. To the faculty we bequeath the satisfaction of knowing that they, after long and trying years, have passed onto us a small bit of knowledge. We bequeath to the Juniors along with their position of dignified Seniors and the Senior room, the heavy responsibility of running the school. Betty Pringle wills her know-it-all intelligence to any ignoramus wanting it. Olive Merritt leaves -in a rush iYou know that guy is waitingl. John Atz leaves his intelligent mind in the books of L. H. S. Marguerite Allred wills her curly locks to Nancy Monroe, who lost her bobby pins in the rush of the Jr Play. Sonny Herndon leaves his friendly Hello to lon Knight, his faithful admirer. Doris Luster be- ciueaths not only DeVaney but her wit and quiet Ways to Frankie Lynch. Eurshel Spires leaves Short- hand still asking - WHY!!! Freda Chain wills her love of robbing the cradle to Ann Marie Oetien, who wishes some Jr. boy would take the hint. Tim Hall leaves her athletic ability to Jackie Butler. iCan't' you picture that!?!i Doris Harnage wills her bubble gum to Janie Hooks. Dot Gerakios wills her knowledge of Chemistry to anyone stupid enough to think he can pass. Edward Taylor leaves his love of hunting to Shark Eye Hardaway. Burdine leaves, heartbrokenly, her place in the band to Joyce Keeler. Bob Kirkland leaves his frogs to some ambitious underclassman. Pat Buckles wills her lady-like dignity to Ann Valentine. Paul Norman wills his ability to sneak out of the Glee Club room on hands and knees to Jack Battle who, we are certain, will make good use of it. Lillian Hall leaves her saucer of milk to Betty Butler. Ernest Brown leaves the younger girls to the younger boys, who up until now, didn't stand a fighting chance. First was the Thanksgiving Program at the Christian Church. They were liked so well that all the churches and many organizatoins requested them as guests. Next the trip to the Music Clinic in Tampa with all members of the sextette and quartette competing in this battle of voices and doing a grand job.
