Seniors con ront rowth's challenge As summer vacation quickly came to a close students returned to pick up their 1977-78 class schedules in preparation for the first school day August 29th. i As the school year progressed, Homecoming was in full swing as students took part in the spirit jug contest, pep assemblies, float building, and other activities, Queen Lori Lee and attendants Kim Mucke and Sue Peterson represented our class. Winter brought Christmas and the Senior class was busy spon-A soring the annual Christmas dance. National Honor Society pre- sented the traditional Candlelighting service which was attended by students, former graduates, parents, and other community mem bers. Basketball started the new year off with a bang as the girls' team went all the way to the top, winning the Missouri State i'l5o.urnan'1ent. Courtwarming Queen Linda Steele and attendants Kelly Pape,eDebbi Vest, and Linda Clark cheered the boys' team fora, but the tinal score showed a Lee's Summit defeat. They ti- nished the season with 9 wins and 16 losses. ,After along winter Seniors turned their minds toward spring andbeeame busy buying dresses and renting tuxes for the Senior Prom at the Gold Buffet. l May 18th was the last day for the Senior class. Baccalaureate and graduation followed. Amid the final good-byes Seniors looked back with a feeling of finality, somehow forgetting the word com- mencement means to begin.
