There is one group of school personnel that often goes unnoticed and unthanked. These are the school secretaries who solve the innumerable problems that arise each school day. Not only do they serve the prin- cipal and vice-principal, they also assist the entire stu- dent body and the large teaching staff. They serve as typist, clerk, recorder, and general data bank, and still have time to greet guests to the school. With the many changes that were necessary as the school switched to the 2 plus 2 plan, the secretaries did a fantastic job in helping to smooth out the actual implementation of the program. . .H ity B fr, in The counselors depend on the fine work of Mrs. Gibson. Some of the special ac: tion required some difficult blocking but the ex- perienced cast did a fine job. This was a play that appealed to many members of the audience. There was so much going on at the same time-resemblance of a three ring circus at times. Laughter showed that the audience enjoyed the comedy spoof on the hurried, materialistic existence that the world provides us today. The crazy family of the Sycamores provided interest and entertain- ment as they taught us that we should all sit back and take life 'a little easier-after all, we wouldn't be able to take anything with us when we go, as said by Grandpa, alias David Gardner. Ginger Meyer This year the Junior Play was Come Blow Your Horn . It was a situation comedy written by Neil Simon which provided a contem- porary look at the problems of being a bachelor. Dan Quesenberry and Pam Fischer gave good character portrayals of Mr. and Mrs. Baker. The drama classes worked hard on the set to come up with something that would fit Alan Baker's modern taste. The change from naive son and brother, Buddy Baker, to a man of the world was performed well by John DeSpain. The sound system operated by Ella Slaughter provided for some amus- ing moments during the play. But all was handled well as the play was enjoyed by all who came to see it. l g I d Y f th i th PPV f h p - ITP Miss Ginger Meyer Miss Wendy Christ Miss Jeanne Watson v ' 1 ,av Junior-Senior Prom Night Spe Tn This isz iety en Jenkins of Alleg Judy N TI' Karen Laurie, Body F The F Buildin '74 ann Diplom are re1 Anders Pomp the Fie r 5' N . Wesselschmidt, Mgr. 2: Coach Childress, C. Davis, J. Graham, M. Routh, J. Sievers, A. Our Cross Country team had its finest season since it was started 8 years ago. After finishing a strong 3rd place in the State meet in 1972 the team came back this year to win the State Cross Country Championship. lt was a tremendous ending for a group of dedicated young men who have spent many hours and long miles of training during their high school career. This was Lee's Summits first State Cham- pionship since 1948, when they won the State Indoor track ti- tle. The team was led by Brad Hawthorne and Rick Den- nison. They finished 1st and 2nd in the State meet, which is something that has never been done before in state competi- tion. Hawthorne set a new state record of 9:46.7 and holds virtually every course record in the area. John Sievers, Alan Housley, Rick Peniston, Dan West, and Mike Routh were the other members of the team. Each one was an outstanding performer and gave tremendous depth to a team that was considered by many coaches to the strongest Cross Country team to ever come out of Missouri. P This years team won the CMS Invitational, the Ruskin invitational, the Conference Meet, the District Meet, the Regional Meet and the State Meet. The J.V. team also had an outstanding season. They were undefeated for the fourth straight season and in most of the meets they shut their opponents out by taking the first five places. The J.V. team was led by Bill Dugan, Carl Davis, Jon Bowen, Mike Maxon, Chris Ray, Greg Standlea and Rob- bie Foulk. V76 vf it Grueling practice. Gymnastics Team Although this was the first year for the Gymnastics Team, they all did a very fine job. The 30 girls were under the direction of Mrs. Alta Sage, who is also a fine gymnast. She was able to give the girls many points to improve their gymnastic ability. All the members had a competitive desire to per- form against other schools in the area. On November 13, the Van Horn Gymnastics team came to L.S. for a demonstration meet. Several meets were scheduled for December. This year the girls gained ex- perience for further competition in the gym- nastics field. lilhin Concert Choir rig, il? 5' fl Row 1, left to right: J. Williams, L. Shepherd, P. Juniors on the Go For Juniors the coming year will be one they will always remember, looking back they will remember the year they spent as juniors, always reminded they were inferior to the ruling senior class. For their participation in Courtwarming activities they received second in hall competition, and second in the spirit jug competition. They also won first place in the Paper Drive, con- tributing the most newspapers. The Junior gift to the seniors is the Junior-Senior Prom, this year with the theme of Neptunes Court. Through time and trouble they presented the Prom on the night of May 3, 1974. They can look back at the antics they pulled as juniors that would not become a senior. For Juniors it has been a year of contributing to their class activities as well as accepting the role as 1975 Seniors. The freshman class officers were Doug Sperber-Presi- dent, Doug Dixon-Vice President, Molly Mercer-Secretary, and Becky Irwin-Treasurer. The freshman class displayed their spirit in their homecoming float which took third place, and in the hall they decorated for Courtwarming which also took third place. The freshmen also elected Molly Mercer for their Homecoming attendant. They had great success with the Sadie Hawkins dance and had a great turnout. The freshmen have truly had a good year and have had their part in making it a successful year for Division l. ll J 5 Arlissa Abdulky Joe Abeln Raymond Adee Debbie Adee Teresa Akers I A .
