But dear old L.S.H.S., We could never forget you. As We trudge our Weary miles, And touch each stepping stone, We will recall our dear old school, And think of it as home. We bid good-by to all our friends, Some we'll never see again. But our memories cannot be erased, By life's savage storms and rain. We thank you dear old high school For four wonderful years. And feel that it is no disgrace, To shed some loving tears. And we thank you our dear teachers, For the trouble you've seen us through, We really can't think of much to say. Except . . . well . . . In the year 1983, two members of the Class of 53,' pause before the final resting place of their Senior sponsors, Mrs Margaret Kephart and Coach J. D. Copple, who grieving the loss of the class were admitted to this place of rest sooner than expected. Meditating, Don and Janet Luker are interrupted by the cemetery caretaker, Keith Rusk. He talks with them and presents his two assistants David Chaney and Danny Jenkins. The Lukers, continuing their journey to town stop and pick up a fellow who is easily recognized as Bob Mooch Kempf. He tells them of Gene Baileyis success in the dairy business. Gene has some cows that give chocolate milk and others giving strawberry milk. He sells his milk to the Borden Company headed by Elsie Powell, Bell Owens, and Bill Bowlin. Moochl' gets out of the car at the pool hall where he is snooker cham- pion. While Don is trying to park, the traffic cop, Jack Gash, tells him where to head inf' The Holmes and Egelston Drug store sign catches their eye. It must belong to Gerald and Larry. Once inside they order cokes from the soda jerk, Joan Carroll. Martha Dyke, town gossip, is there also and tells them all the news. Listen to their conversation. Martha is speaking- You remember that louse, Larry Mahan, well, I mar- ried him. He's a bouncer out at the cafe owned by Walter Elwell .and Donna Rae Henry. Of course you knew they were married the summer of '53, They bought the Dine-A-Mite cafe when Walt won playing the ponies. You should catch his floor show. He features the Dine-A-Mite Six, Dianne Walberg, Joyce Heerwald, Sue Williams, Barbara Greene, Linda Greene, and Shirley Press- ley. The main attraction is the Honolulu Baby, Edna Mae West. He serves a potent drink brewed by the Willis Clark Beverage Company. It is a concoction of mountain dewi' known as Old Panther. You knew Don Hoskins and Jackie Bray were happily married and live in the busy metropolis of Lone J ack. Melvin Christy, scientist, and Henry Henkle also live out there. Have you heard about their revolutionary new face powder? Larry Lowcock tried it and now hangs his hat on his left shoulder. Ruth Turney and Wanda Rayl have a restaurant but business is badf I've got to go now. I suggest you go across the street and see the Mayor, Jim Winburn. He and Richard Corlew are party bigwigs around here. Richard controls the machine at Greenwood. Bye? They find the Mayor talking to the President of the Bank of Cockrell, Jack Hoke. It seems Janice Nelson, Cockrell socialite, gave a check that bounced. Jim asks them to be seated and business is almost forgotten as Jim tells them of other members of the class of '53. Jim is speaking, Bob Randall, local bone buster and chiropractor, has an office next door. Clint Miller and Jim Buell are partners. Clint is the leading physician and Jim the only mortician. That's Jim Jordan's Barber Shop across the street, and there goes Baldy Bob Warren, his best customer. -John Acuff is in the used car business-Henry Green wrecks them and John rebuilds them and sells them. Larry the Bear Lee and Sue Basye both work out at the zoo. She feeds the bears. Bob Adams and Don Holmes, daredevil drivers, are featured at Vernon Murphy's Speedway. Janice Shull and JoAnn Standley operate the J 8z J Taxi. Mary Alice Keller, Flora Ann Fieldman and Shirley Harper are now doing line repair for the phone company-tired of inside work. Nellie Rogers is teaching Home Economics. Nina and Norma Whitaker are the town's smartest hostesses-often give eight parties a week. John Atkinson has set a new record in the State Senate for filibustering. JoAnn Hayes, Commercial teacher, teaches gals how to hang on to their pennies. Billy Walker, Industrial Arts teacher, teaches the boys how to chisel. Betty Lou Haislip is teaching Carolyn Moore how to build muscles. Lonny Campbell is a contractor, building air castles. James Warford has devoted his life to the ministry. His best sermon material is provided by Richard Akerson, George Turner, Larry Rockhold, Albert Barr, and Don Roadcap who furnish him with plenty of things to preach against. Clarence Cox and Helena Barnes have a little army- Coxes Army. Kieth Winterowd is an electrician, still a livewire. Frances Cross is training Jean Purcell and Dor- othy Alley for the World Women's Wrestling Championship. They work out at Walt's Gym owned by Walter Jones. Janie Broyles and Jim Slagle are still happily married. Glenda Frasher, Bessie King, and Delores Nolen have achieved high, ranks in the Waves. The army has had only one buck private for years-Dale Taylor. Jean Shingleton is teaching Epics and reforming Vir- ginia Thursby, LaDean Allen and Carol Thomp- son. The conversation continued on and on and just before the Lukers left the office James Brown, the Marshall, rushed in and announced that he had finally caught Bob Smith, alias Slippery Jimv the confidence man.
