4' Autumn C L A S S 0 F 1 9 4 3 SOPHOMORES PAINT THEIR PICTURE IN the fall of '39 our great painter, Time, started an enormous picture on the activities of our class. In our Freshman year he sketched just a few drawings on a green background to designate our first year of high school life. After a three month vacation, the painter picked up his brush and began adding more drawings to indicate the eventful happenings of our Sophomore year. The first addition that we notice is the black, snakeflike smoke winding its way into the heavens. The smoke is belching forth from the different factories nestled down in a large valley. This portray-s our yearly trip to the Smoky City where we visited Heinz's, National Biscuit Company, Radio Station KDKA, and the home of the Pittsburgh Press. As we scan the right side of the picture, we can readily understand why the artist asked for a rest. In trying to be true to the happenings, he painted a section of the dance floor on the night of the Sophomore's first dance. This dance was a huge success from every point of view. Looking to your left, you may see the local high school stage with some characters with musical instruments in their hands. This sketch was drawn. to bring out the time that we had a musical talent show which went over in a big way with the rest of the inmates In the left top corner of this great canvas are the bright decorations of Valentine's Day contrasting with the black smoke mentioned before. This splash of color symbolizes another successful dance. Gathering all of our pecuniae together, our treasury could now be compared with the United States mint. The most beautiful sketch is on the center of the canvas. This picture is the most elaborately painted one because it shows the 'high school gym decorated for the Sophomore Hop. The setting for this picture is based on a beautiful, southern plantation. Our painter, Time, made it very realistic by doing his very best on the couples dancing to the music under the stars. In the future, many a Sophomore will gaze at this work of art and many pleasant memories will be recalled. The masterpiece is but half completed. Two more years of happiness-and maybe a sprinkle of sadness-are yet to be painted on this huge canvas. What will the empty spaces contain for the Class of '43 ?
