Swain, Principal I am happy to say that this has been the most pleasant year I have ever experienced as a school administrator. The splendid spirit of good will and cooperation everywhere evident among students, teachers, and parents, in working to make Lee Woodard School the best possible place for learning and intellectual development, is unsurpassed in my experience. Let's continue to hold that ideal before us with fervor and resolve, as we advance together, building a better school. V i 1 163' FACULTY R. S. SWAIN M.R. TOMMY PERRY Principal MRS. She has brought much happiness to our senior class with her love, understanding and helpfulness. Although she has been with us only a few years, she has really brought us the many joys of school life. We wish to express our great appreciation by dedicating this annual to her. Mrs. Eatmon, we may be separated from you by time and distance, but we will never forget you. CLASS HISTORY As we, the Senior Class of 1959, near our long awaited goal, we look back upon twelve hard but fun-filled years. In 1947 forty frightened children first entered what appeared to be a dark, dreary building, but it didn't take our first grade teacher, Miss Cox, long to put light back into our lives. Before long we actually wanted school to last longer than it did. For our second year of schooling we had Mrs. Boyette as our teacher. This year we learned many new things including how to write instead of printing. The following year we were divided between Mrs. Moore and Mrs. Proctor. ' In the fourth grade we were again divided, this time between Mrs. Yelverton and Mrs. Proctor. Our fifth year again saw us separated, this time in Mrs. Yelverton and Missjones' rooms. Our teachers for the 6th grade were Mrs. jones and Miss Wainwright. We were finally united in the 7th grade in Mrs. Baker's room. By this time we were really beginning to enjoy our school year and hated to say good-bye to our friends and teacher. In Mrs. Brinson's 8th grade Bill Boyette joined our class. We learned in this step of our elementary education that we must prepare ourselves now for the future years. Finally in 1955 we stepped upon the threshold of our high school years. Our coach, Mr. Stogner, was our homeroom teacher -no pilot-that year. We hadhim also as our civics teacher and we flew about twenty bombing missions over Germany with him as tail-gunner. Our other teachers were Mrs. Yelverton, Mrs. Eatman, Mrs. Shackleford, and Mr. Matthis, with Mr. Pridgen as our Principal. In the tenth grade Mrs. Deans joined our teaching staff and was our homeroom teacher. Mr. Stogner left us and Mr. Henderson became our new coach, Mr. Pridgen left us midway that year to re -enlist in the army. Mr. Taylor was our principal for the remainder of the year. We lost Janet Barnes and janet Roberts that year. Highlights of both our Freshman and Sophomore years was the Mother -Daughter and Father -Son Banquet. For our junior year Mrs. Eatman was our homeroom teacher. We spent most of the first two months of this year selling magazines in order to raise money for the junior-Senior Banquet. The Banquet and our trip to the Ice Capades were our most important activities in our Junior year. And then finally we were Seniors with Mrs. Shackleford as our homeroom teacher. We lost Mr. Henderson and Mrs. Deans, but Mr. Perry and Mrs. Benton took their places. Highlights of our Senior year were The junior- Senior Banquet and of course our graduation exercises. As we approach the end of our high school years, we realize that we are leaving behind some of our happiest and most enjoyable years. RONNY AYCOCK Historian yu- 4 ww.. CLASS PROPHECY As a physician I meet many strange people, but two weeks ago today a strange and very nervous person entered my office. Through a long and thorough discussion, I found my patient to be a student at Lee Woodard High School. The sickness which this pupil had acquired was very astonishing. It seemed as though, through his dreams, he could foresee the future of his classmates in the Senior Class. The patient proceeded to tell me the dreams which went as follows: RONNY AYCOCK is now a top Russian scientist since he could not make the grade in the United States. RODNEY BASS, through hard labor, is the proud owner of a new Cadillac-excuse me, Imeant two ob'm. JOANNE MERCER has a successful marriage with her Soldier Boy and is enjoying watching her twins grow up. ELIZABETH LAMM is now living with her husband and ten botmcing baby girls in Hawaii, watching the grass skirts swing and sway. LINWOOD BRASWELL nows plays baseball for the Milwaukee Braves since he couldn't quite make the New York Yankee team. RONALD TOMLINSON has come back from studying at the Sorbonne to live on the old plantation and has two very French-looking, short, black-haired, giggling girls. MARY SPEIGHT is married to a rich and very handsome man, she lives in New York and is the mother of two children. EDGAR MALLARD is now working with Liga- Magazine, posing for pictures with those ideal LIPS of his. IELLAN BOYKIN just re- ceived the American League Most Valuable Player Award for pitching a perfect ga me -no player reached first base or even got back to the bench, they were all hospital bound. THOMAS PIERCE and JEAN LAMM have finally taken the big step. They are now enjoying a happy and successful married life. EDWIN EVANS is an engineer with the Chrysler Corporationj he is trying to invent an airsifted Plymouth that doesn't use oil. SUE HARRELL is now married to a gold digger named Clifton Clayhole and has eleven dark-skinned gold diggers. NORMAN HOLLAND, GEORGE PIERCE, and GENE LEWIS are all big wheels in the world of business. They are co-owners in the Lewis, Holland, and Pierce enterprise. This is a very profitable business which invented the Hula Hoop. BOBBIE ANN HAYES, who was recently divorced from her sixth husband, is trying to take the big step again. TOOTSIE JOHNSON has just taken a great step-she has replaced Schultzie on the Bob Cummings Show. MYRTLE CROSS, who just took a trip to New York, has landed a job as a private secretary. MARTHA SPEIGHT, who must have taken a great interest in that 12th grade Literature, has just finished her first Broadway play-Why 12th Grade Students Should Study Chaucer. After my patient, BILL BOYETTE, had described the details of his unscrupulous dreams, I then studied a cure for his ailment. The only cure that I could recommend was never to Lmdertake the responsibility of driving another school bus. PROPI-LET --Dr. Shackleford Chaucer PROPHESIER -Bill Boyette We the graduating class of 1959, of Lee Woodard High, being of supposedly sound mind and good character, contrary to popular opinion, do hereby make and declare this to be our Last Will and Testament: Article L To the school we leave the memories of our great advancements that we have achieved through the twelve years of our education experiences.
