Lee Participates in Honor America Day November 21, 1979 was a special day set aside for all Juniors in Huntsville to pay special tribute to our country. It was entitled Honor America Day”, and was, hopefully, the beginning of a patriotic tradition for the city. A parade, in which the Lee Marching Band participated, was held that morning. In the afternoon, a program of guest speakers was held in the Von Braun Civic Center. Among the speakers were Huntsville Mayor Joe Davis, Alabama Governor, Fob James, Alabama football coach, Paul Bear” Bryant, Miss Alabama, Kathy Pickett, and Chip Carter. Seven Alabama Senators and Congressmen also spoke. Juniors received free tickets and were allowed to miss school in order to attend the ceremonies. Several Lee Juniors participated in reciting the amendments of the U.S. Constitution. Left: The Color guard present» the flags to the audience. Bottom left: Student Council Officers, Curtis Bridges, Scott Speigle. Julie Smith. Tammy Spears, and Lynn Stuckey represent Lee during the program at the Von Braun Civic Center.
